Guest The Pom Queen
I don't want to go in to too many details but I have a dear friend who has suffered with DV the family is split up (her and 2 children, we are looking after one of them) but in 10 days she has no where to live, she is on a temp visa, she has just the clothes on her back and she can't get any help from centrelink because she is a temp resident. Does anyone know of any help out there so she can get her own place, otherwise she is saying she has no choice but to go back to him:cry::cry: I can't have that so she would end up back at mine but I think hubby and the kids would move out. I feel so helpless and having been through DV myself it makes it more personal
Guest Trueblue22
How awful!! I too have suffered DV so completely understand the situation. I wish I could offer some solution, if I was there I would take her in in a heartbeat. I hope you find a solution. X

Guest The Pom Queen
Can't she file a complaint against the husband and make him move? It has been to the courts but she isn't in any state to do anything so I'm not sure where she stands

Wellers and Whitehead
The iwss is just coming up bad reception. That is ask it says do doesn't look like it's working. Which state does she live? I would suggest reporting it to the police, they do sometimes get the perp to leave the family home, but this may not happen as quickly as your friends needs. Look at womens refugees, where they help find accommodation. She must not go back to him, as this will impact on the children massively, witnessing Dv, but nothing she doesn't already know i'm sure. Wellers and Whitehead
What was said at court?
millymarie
Yes, all areas have a DV charity who house victims of DV in crisis and their children. They will be put in safe housing irrespective of their visa. Often women who are being abused by Australian partner will be told by their partners that they'll be sent home if they speak out. This is NOT the case when it involves DV. I'm not sure about Cairns, but Whitsunday Crisis & Counselling service are just one service who will assist women and children escaping DV in North Queensland, by providing refuge accommodation and organising dollars for transport/over night accommodation to get them to the refuge etc. Their contact details are (07) 4946 2999. They will have the contacts you need in your area if they are unable to assist you directly. Good luck.
Guest The Pom Queen
What was said at court? I haven't had the chance to speak to her about the court, she went with another lady, they got a police escort to the court, I know he has a DVO and there are talks it may affect his career (pilot)
millymarie
Sorry, forgot to add from there she will be supported, housed, fed, assisted to access financial entitlements (like I said although temp residents aren't normally entitled to financial benefits and the aus equivelent of council housing, the situation with regards to immigration is very different when DV is involved). She will be protected and looked after and this will take the pressure of you as her friend.

Grrrrrrrr..........don't even get me started! I hope there's something that can be done soon for your friend that has the least detrimental effect on her and the kids. Wellers and Whitehead
It will come up on a working with children check and he will have to be risk Assessed, the more incidents reported the higher risk he posses. That is if the children are listed as protected people on the order. I would ring the nearest Dv support centre (google) and they will help. Wellers and Whitehead
I would strongly advise she does not return, not only due to the obvious reasons of impacting on the children and her mental health, but she could be seen as not protecting her children if she was to return. Wellers and Whitehead
Did she contact any Dv support lines/refuges etc. I did a uni placement in a UK refuge and it was like a mini family, women supporting each other etc. why does her visa run out? What's her plan? Can she return to the UK with the children if all else fails?
