The banks had access to an aditional 58% of their previous funds threw Quantam easing, however their lending increased by 0.2%!!!!
Your right give it to the plumbers, especially the ones in Devon

It will decrease the value of the pound, which is the real reason they're doing it.

Qualitative Easing has failed miserably at its stated intention - economic recovery but worked beautifully at its real one - devaluing the pound.

When a currency is debased by excessive money printing (which is all QE really is) it benefits debtors by lowering interest rates and punishes savers both by lowering rates and also by causing inflation. It also makes debts easier to repay in devalued currency.

When you realise that the government and the banks are the biggest debtors of all, it makes sense that they should try to print their way out of debt, but it won't work, sooner or later the market will loose confidence in the UK, borrowing costs will rise (maybe a lot) and the game will be up, any gains that are made will be at the direct expense of savers, who see the purchasing power of their savings continually falling as they are doing now.

Because they can't, they surrendered control their currencies to the EU, if they still had the Dracma, Escudo, Punt and Lira they likely would have been printing them like crazy long before now. The ECB (Euro Central Bank) is up to all sorts of shenanigans, some of which are looking more and more like QE, much to the displeasure of the strong EZ economies (basically Germany) this will also fail to fix the crisis.

The Euro is one of the few currencies doing worse than the pound at the moment.

I want to smash Mervin King's bloody face in every time he announces yet more QE - newsflash, it's not working! I'm just bitter and selfish because this whole damn situation is stopping us from emigrating with a decent sum of money and it's penelising us for saving that cash by not having a tiny bit of interest. Not to mention taxes. It all just feels personal now!!!

Quatative easing is a policy of last resort and can result in massive Inflation if not used wisely

Inflation is coming down at last in the Uk, somehow, when Cameron and Osbourne raised VAT up to 20% it also raised inflation, but they only consider that figure for one year even though we pay the extra forever, WTF.

Our problem in the UK is no growth and recession, my view is that with the lack of pay rises, in fact wages are actually dropping which to me means people have less to spend, which equals ..... No growth and continued, slump, or recession.
