Australian address

hi,
have I missed something or just being plain thick.
When you arrive in oz( Perth) most people seem to go into a furnished rental for x number of weeks while looking for house etc, work etc
This is the question ????
how do people give addresses for say bank, schools, phones anything that you need .
what I mean is that if you haven't secured a rental how do you get into a school, what address do you give a phone company.etc etc etc
if your looking for work what address do you give them to send you a reply , info etc
there must be a simple explanation but I can't see it.

You can't register for schools until you have an address as they are very strict on catchment areas so I guess the kids don't start straightaway.
Most new arrivals seem to get prepaid sim cards/phones so don't need an address.
I guess most of the rest is done by phone and or email.
I have registered with NAB online for when I arrive and can go and pick up my bank cards when I want with no address needed !
There are always ways around it - fortunately I have a cousin in Perth so can use her address.

I seem to recall that we used the apartment's address. Thing is though that we had jobs secured before we left, and we also had family on the Gold Coast, so we used their address for a while until we got a house sorted out.

I agree though it's a bit of a tricky one eh!!! I would probably consider using the apartment address at first and then when you have somewhere secured make sure that you immediately update anything that you put the address on.

As Luke says ,use the temp accommodation address and change it over once you have a new address. Aus post do a great forwarding service when you move out.

we used our daughters address for tax file numbers,medicare,and australian business numbers--you can change the address on these once you have settled down into your own place--plus we did our oz banks originally at the daughter address---we went out quite a bit to oz before emigrating,and set up australian bank accounts using our daughters address--if any members is on a recce--they may want to consider this--friends of mine used a bed&breakfast address they used in oz to achieve this-worth a thought--i think we opened an account with the NAB for 20 dollars--no problems
