Hi there, I did it in feb this year and took just my hand tools and a cordless drill, all your normal squares, handsaw, chisels, etc.
they supply power tools if needed but didn't need them all they asked was for us to put a corner section of pitched roof with 2 hips set of jack rafters all done to scale off a drawing but the guys give you the pitch. They are dead friendly and there to help you not to catch you out.
One thing I would say is to brush up on health and safety but they do ask random questions, ie asbestos removal and demolition
just be confident and your be fine, any other questions just ask, god luck

I will have to do this very soon as long as I pass my IELTS. I wasn't aware that Carpentry needed a practical test though, is this new? As my friend did it last year and all it consisted of was a skype call and an interview. He has been now granted his permanent visa!

Hi, I think you can have a choice by doing practical,or the Skype interview, not sure what's involved in it.
the carpentry practical is easy tho if you know your stuff you'll be fine, not sure what will happen come July 1st with all the changes taking place though

The only problem I have with a practical test is that they are done in London AFAIK. With me being in Yorkshire it's quite a journey, so if I can have a Skype interview I'll be jumping at the chance. I didn't realise there was a choice.
Thanks for the info

The interviews are only done in specific places to mate under test conditions.
For the skills test i'm going down the day before on the train hotel then train home after test 1st class and a decent hotel £150 all in
