Olympic torch relay starts today at Lands End

The BBC has a great online tracker where you can find out if it is passing near you and also follow its progress along the way. And who knows, perhaps learn a bit more about the UK on the way, hear of new places, see new sights and so on with the pics and vids that will appear.

Here is the BBC site for the Olympic Torch relay

      http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay/day1

It passes our door, literally, in a few days. Very exciting, plan to get up and take breakfast with us and go sit to see it go past :) Our son is old enough now to be able to understand the more simple aspects of this relay and we fully plan to enjoy watching great parts of the Olympics on TV. Hubby is an avid cyclist so no doubt will see as much of that as possible and we will be cheering on Aussies and Brits alike in our house :)

I am really looking forward to us hosting the Olympics now. I wasn't overly smitten when it was announced, but of course, as time goes on and it gets ever closer, I can't help but be excited about it. Its a truly great sporting event with some of the greatest in their chosen sports competing. As someone who appreciates and loves a lot of sports, this will be something I'll long remember I am sure :)

My husband remembers when Aus hosted the Olympics and said the nation really did seem to get behind the event and it was fab to be the host country. Also HG and Roy and The Dream TV show during the Aus Olympics. Classic stuff. A clip from the gymnastics for you :> (loved their commentary on the GF for the Aussie Rules also)

      Batter the sav anyone?

The torch will be at Newquay Sports Centre on Saturday 19th May at around 1.40pm. My 10 year old son is competing in a duathlon there as part of the celebrations so it's all very exciting & a once in a lifetime opportunity to see it.

The torch has started its journey from Lands End, Ben Ainslie (triple Olympic gold medal winner in a sailing class) is carrying it :)

A news report from the BBC site about the start of the journey round the British Isles.

      http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18119893

It goes past our house between 7-8am in a few days which is great as we are long up by then.

OLYMPIC TORCH just left Lands end

So the Olympic torch has just left Lands end and will be in my neck of the woods doing its relay in a few hours(Newquay). I will go and have a look just because it will probably never happen again in my lifetime. Any one else going to get to see it?

That bbc tracker is great.....it will be in my old town(Basingstoke) on 11th July! It's a shame I will probably never witness something like that again!
