Nope, I won't be travelling the world gathering passports on the off chance one of may kids may fancy living in a different country. Within my family though there will always be very strong emotional ties to Oz. My brother, sister in law & 5 year old nephew live there & currently have no intention of returning to the UK. Of course nobody can predict the future. My boys may decide to live anywhere in the world or just 2 streets away from where they grow up, who knows. I'm just hoping to make the most of an opportunity we have to maybe obtain citizenship in Oz so that my children don't have to go through all the hoops we've had to should they want to live in Oz. Who knows, when we go we may love it so much we may never return to the UK?
Anyway, the Olympic Torch is coming to Newquay tomorrow at the sports centre at the back of my house. My 10 year old son is competing in a duathlon there as part of the celebrations. It's all very exciting & this is a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity too. I dont think any country is better or worse than another, just different opportunities.

It's the irrelevant comparator you used that was the problem. By saying "10 out of 55,000" it suggests that only 10 out of those 55,000 are people who might be interested in coming home. Which is patently nonsense. Of course the thread was full of people who were talking about not making Oz their permanent home - that is, after all, the entire point of the thread......

No, the point i was making is that Twistbexter was feeling a bit down after reading 10 or less negative posts on THIS thread and there are 55,000 members on PIO, not that there aren't more, who might be interested in coming home, just on this thread, glad i could clear it up for you.

Turned into a relevant comparator then.

I see it as completely irrelevant, full stop.

I completely agree. It seems sometimes that UK migrants only want to commit to a few years in Oz to get citizenship and then push off. To simply stay in a country without committing to it seems selfish. Why not just stay and be contented with what the country has given you.
Peace and happiness!

Bit offended really. Nobody applies for visa/citizenship without sacrificing a lot. The financial hoops you have to jump through show enough commitment! Plus who says you have to stay somewhere forever just because you have a piece of paper? Life is much more complex than that. You have the freedom to enter/leave the uk & oz legally, imagine if you were stuck in one or the other? I am content where I am but I would like to see a bit more of oz & show my kids a bit too.
