      Depression

Anyone had it or has a partner who has had it.? I have gone through a bad time recently and have been prescribed anti depressants by my doctor, this is the first ever time in my life I have not been happy and it is not nice. It has been going on for 3 months and there just not seem a way out, will it ever go away.

Depression is horrible - but not insummountable :) - I have dealt with loads of it at work and its been great to see folk come out of the dark cloud!
Don't know if your Doc told you but anti Depressants can take 3 week plus to kick in so don't knock them on the head if they don't seem to work straight away. Also so many different types so if no result - try another kind. Exercise is a fab mood booster but it is often the last thing you fancy when you feel low - but try and get up and exercise if poss!
Beyond Blue are a great resource and support for depression sufferers too - check them out.
All the best - hope the blues days are much less often soon!

Sorry to hear this, you are not alone and like the other poster mentions it can take a while for antidepressants to work, in fact the first few weeks they can make you feel worse. Also there are lots of different types so you may need to try another if these aren't working.

Hey hun, big hugs to you. Depression is horrible, the feeling of total hopelessness can consume you, but there is light in the darkness. Speaking from experience, it takes time give the tablets chance to kick in, this can take time, I dont know what tabs you are on, for me it Prozac, they do help so stick with it. The thing with depression is that it is not one thing that gets you down it is a mixture of a hundred little things, you cant pin point it. I find writing things down helps. Also allow yourself to feel, cry if you want to, shout if you want to, dont hide your feelings and you will get through this xxxx

My brother in law has just come through it after being depressed for 18 months, his mum and dad died and his new business venture got on the top of him and he just struggled to deal with things. He was really outgoing and happy before all this and then he was like a different person. We have all rallied round him and we have been on a couple of holidays with him and had several nights out, his doctor put him on some tablets and he is getting back to his old self, but it has taken a long time. I am no expert on this, but getting out and about and involved in things has helped my brother in law, when he was stuck in the house he just got worse. I hope things pick up for you and try to focus on the positives in your life, i know its not easy.

Prescribed citolpram, yes it is lots of little things that are racing through your brain that make you feel low, I was the last person who thought I would get depressed and as a man it makes you feel like a failure and a weak person although I know it can happen to the strongest men out there.

It can hapen to anyone. I must praise you for getting help, it takes a strong person to realise that things are not right and I commend you for this. Just because you are a man and are expected to be the strong one, you are still human with feelings. You are not alone with this hun, it will take time but you will get through it....dont fight your feelings or bottle things inside, dont question things, just BE for a while, and as I said before allow yourself to feel xxx much love to you xxx

Yeah mate you can get better, I had mild depression, the worse time was before I actually understood what was happening, as soon as I knew I tried to learn as much as I could about it, joined some forums, asked for advice, and fought it every way I could think off, just doing that, taking some positive action helped me immensely, took me a good few months but I'm back to me old self now, actually I'm better than my old self in someways, you can beat it mate, don't let the depression win.
"Never seen that/happened to me in Australia, but it I saw it/it happened to me all the time in the U.K" Please feel free to cut and paste as many times as you like.
