Will I need to hide my bottle in a brown paper bag???!!

Wasn't too sure where to post this but as it is causing a bit of a family dilemma decided here would be as good as any!

Soooo...with our first Australia Day rapidly approaching and having stocked up on all things covered in the Australian flag and planned the picnic way in advance I am now left wondering just how rigid is the "alcohol free" message that liberally peppers our local (Perth) event planners? I have noted the BYO picnic areas but I fear this is the City of Perth's way of bundling up all the wino's such as myself and my other half into an easily controlled space should the freaky Dad dancing get out of hand

I hasten to add that as a responsible middle-aged parents we're not looking to get totally trashed but rather fancy a nice chilled glass of rose and a beer whilst embracing the patriotism of my new home......

Can anyone tell me whether I risk a spell at Her Majesty's leisure should I decide to quaff a glass or dare I say it....even two?????

Where are you planning on going? We were at a picnic area at Hillarys last year then on to Kings Park afterwards and there was no shortage of beers and wine in sight!

This might help - from South Perth website:

The City, with sponsorship from Healthway and Lotterywest, has established a 100,000 square metre fenced smoke and alcohol free Celebration Zone on the foreshore at Sir James Mitchell Park.
City of South Perth Mayor, James Best, said that the City aimed to build on the success of two smaller alcohol and smoke free zones on the foreshore for the Australia Day celebrations.
“Last year, there were two special alcohol and smoke free areas – the Family Zone and the Youth Zone – and they attracted more than 30,000 people,” Mr Best said.
“This year, we have combined the two zones to create an even larger area and we want to encourage even more families to celebrate Australia Day with us and to enjoy the City of Perth’s Skyworks show in a safe and comfortable environment,” he said.
“Our free Celebration Zone has something for everyone. Locals and visitors can come down, take in our fantastic views and explore our exciting array of entertainment options. I look forward bringing the family down and soaking up the vibe.”
“Our zero-tolerance approach to alcohol for the Celebration Zone makes it inclusive for everyone.”
Healthway’s Chairperson, Dr Rosanna Capolingua, said reducing harm from excessive alcohol consumption was a priority health issue for Healthway.
“Unfortunately, we have a culture in Western Australia where many people seem to believe that you have to drink alcohol to have an enjoyable time,” Dr Capolingua said.

“The alcohol free Celebration Zone offers West Australians an opportunity to take part in and enjoy the Australia Day celebrations, including the fireworks, without alcohol.”
The City of South Perth is offering 60 free activities throughout the day for people of all ages from toddlers to adults. There will also be a Big Top tent in the centre of Sir James Mitchell Park, which will provide shade, healthy food, seating and stage performances.
The Australia Day celebrations will begin with a Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony at 8am in the Big Top Tent, followed by the Great Aussie Breakfast and then movie screening of Bran Nue Dae at 11am.

Oh poop! It was the Celebration Zone we were planning on going to 'cos it sounds good for all of us big and littlie's
Awwwww well obviously I would not have it said that I "believe that I have to drink alcohol to have an enjoyable time" so will embrace an alcohol free atmosphere....at least til we get home and break out the tequila!!!!

I always bottle some homebrew in soft drink bottles with their labels on. That way I can flagrantly disregard the no alcohol rule on such occassions. Vive la revolution!

If you really want to you can always pre-mix G&T in the T bottle.

But my preference for alcohol free events (and also the rare alcohol free day) is to embrace the LLB (Lemon, Lime and Bitters) mmmmmmmm (technically still alcoholic, but not really!)

I believe some people inject watermelons with alcohol and take them into sporting events when no bottles are allowed. Sounds a bit heavy to me....

They're brilliant killjoys when they want to be, so expect it to be rigid (the policy enforcement that is).
