Technically they still are as they will not change the ranking's until after this series, in order for India to stay at the top they will have to stop England winning 1 of the remaining 2 test's which in my opinion they will not do, England as they have proved so far are easily the better side, the first test was won by the best part of 200 runs and the second by well over 300 which to be honest is a drubbing, having said that of course if this series was being played in India then the outcome would probably be slightly different as India in there own back yard are formidable opponent's but i would still back England as they are a class act. Even if India do get back in the series which is highly unlikely then it would just be a matter of time before England take over at the top, India are an ageing team with the like's of Laxman, Dravid, Harbajan, and the great man himself Tendulkar all past their best whereas England are still quite a young side who are hungry for success and more importantly all looking over their shoulder's as we have strengh in depth so any passenger's will be hoofed out in favour of the next player.
Also South Africa have an older squad and Australia are not at the race's at the moment but will surly come good in a few year's time so all in all for my money England are the best side in the world and will be for some time to come.

....... India r a good side but as stated in India would be tougher but in England we r the BEST.... India r in Aus. next and hopefully I'll be there to watch at the Gabba.....

I'm enjoying recycling all the old taunts my Aussie mates threw at me for 15 or more years. eg. Next Ashes series we'll just play three tests - it's not worth playing five - it's no contest. OR next time we'll just play our Sheila team.

Mind you, the Indians have been even worse than the Aussies. I thought they were supposed to be the Galacticos.

Talking of Galactico's if Spain's economy follows Greece maybe Real Madrid and Barcelona will go down too.
