Open University Diplomas/Degrees, Any Advice Please.
As some of you would have noticed recently I often contemplate a career change, well at least something different I guess, man of many 'skills' me, but crap at most,
.
I guess I'm not really looking for a career change, rather to become a bit more knowledgeable in certain things that I truly love, my thoughts so far are Ichthyology, Entomology, Marine Biology or a very basic Psychology course.
I only ask about the Open University because I am unable to leave the home for any lengthy period of time,
, and I think the costs 'may' be slightly less than a 'traditional' uni.
As I said, it's not so much a 'degree' status I am looking for, more to arm myself with more knowledge about certain subjects and really enjoy, I love learning and 'think' I may enjoy it.
Also is the fact that I didn't do brilliantly at school, unless the lessons were Geography or Saltwater Flyfishing I to my shame rarely was as studious as I could have been,
, so I guess I am a bit dim when it may come to entrance requirements,
.
I have been online reading reviews etc, but I trust you lot more than a total stranger giving their opinion so would really appreciate the pro's and con's of the Open University.
EDITED TO ADD. I only ask as you will notice the subjects I have chosen could be very useful in OZ (and are OZ related in a way) when I finally get back and may come in handy if I ever have the time to pursue them when in Australia.
Many thanks
Tony.

Get Marine Biology done and then you can live in Cairns and find a great job on the reef

But seriously Kate, would be great to be armed with more detailed info, as I would love to learn more.
Cheers Tony.
Hey we could buy a boat together, I'll drive and serve the wine and you can do the talks about the marine life:fish:

I would recommend OU, the only problem is that you have to be pretty motivated to complete a course through distance learning. Which would mean you cannot be on PIO
Their subject matter and support is very good, well at least in the technology fields, and I enjoyed the courses that I did, but it is a lot of work. If you are a UK permanent resident that fees are pretty good and when i did my courses (2006) they were between £300 and £800 per course per year. Most of us mere mortals can only cope with 1 course per year.
TRA Submitted 24/03/11,TRA Successful 18/04/11,WA SA Submitted 19/04/11,WA Approved 20/05/11,176 Visa lodged 20/05/11,Form 1100 to DIAC 22/06/11,CO Assigned 05/07/11,Medicals 19/9/11 Finalized 27/09/11,S.Africa+UK PCC sent to CO 6/10/11,VISA Granted 7/10/11!

Many thanks Web.
Reference the motivation thing, I understand what you're saying, but I am immensely interested in the subjects outlined and hopefully the old Mojo would kick in.
Once again mate, many thanks.
Cheers Tony.

my son has a place to do zoology at Manchester, but may do marine biology or similar in Oz, think you'd make a great team in Oz, not sure any work would be done........it's a hard life
, but someone will have to do it
