Had stuff "missing" from your shipment?

Hi,

If like many other you have lost stuff from your shipment... will you please tell me!

Currently constructing a website..intended to help those planning on coming over to Aussie or NZ.

I would like to know the shippers, how it was shipped - full or part container, what went missing - shipper reaction to your "complaint" or insurance claim. And result of any insurance claim.

Plus any additional info you think may help...

I would like to know who YOU but.. NOBODY ELSE WILL!

I think sits time that peopel using shipper were aware of the pitfalls of shipping your life in a box!

I know its tedious and not much fun for you...but think how it may help others coming up behind us!

TIA

L.L.

Does this happen alot then? Just about to sort out a shipping agent & now you have us worried!

Are there any we should definitely avoid?

Bad news...yes it does happen a lot! From the info I am getting its a mini side industry to the shipping!

Those who use part containers or groupage seem to get hit more. Maybe because most containers are filled and sealed at the door of departure.

What can you do..stand over the packers and log every item going in a box, photo graph it.

They get away with with most stuff because its impossible to watch every thing they do...sooner or later you need the loo!

Insure any item specifically on the form and make sure if you dont have receipts...that you get a photo of you with the item..

We used John Mason Liverpool. A friend of ours used Crown to NZ... did not hack it and bounced back to the UK..using Crown again...not even a broken wine glass on the round trip".
We tried too skimp a bit after getting stung selling the house, pulled away from Crown to save £500! It will cost twice that to replace the thefts.

Please let me kno whow you decide who to use and even months from now...let me kno wteh results.

Best Wishes

Hi,

We are frrom Ashton under Lyne!!!

I have seen posts praising John mason...and in truth...had nothing gone missing... the rest of the dealing with the surveryor...they office staff etc,. warranted no complaints...but it was all ruined when stuff goes missing in thier care...it does not matter who , where or when...fact is only the packkers or others in JM up until it was put in a container and sealed...had access to our property!

Take every precaution you can and I would unpack and photograph everything when they arrive!

Been to Perth twice....great place and if our daughter had settled their ...so would we!

Please keep me advised as to your progress and reuslts.

best Wishes

We had the strangest thing go missing. It was a socket set! It wasn't particularly expensive or anything, but it never turned up! We had a single use container and used Crown Relo.

Hi Rudi,

Thanks for your post - it sort of validates my earlier commenst...all shippers seem to "lose" stuff.

When our boxes arrived...all except those identified as being examined by Sydney customes..were still sealed in the JM white tape.
I had just joined tehlocal art group and had mentioned that I make frames and mounts...so I was asked for some. Soon as the shipment arived and was unloaded into the garage, I went to the box identified with my Mat Cutter its 36" x 12" - missing!

That lead to the need to open every single box and things like 2 pkts of 4 new AA re-charge batteries missing, 4 of the cloths you get with new monitors ot LCD - missing.
Lots of other bitty things...a box with 100 blank CDs missing...a new tub of 50 DVD+R ignored!

But everything missing was connected to art or camera's!

In real terms I think the shipping companies are victims of the actions of their staff. But I cannot be the only one who ever contacted JM and advised them stuff was missing. So they must know who was doing the packing and how many complpaints are recived. Its simple logistics to link the two!

I just hoped more would come out and tell us their stories. At least those planning on shippers can be warned.

Regards

So if teh boxes were still sealed....the olny reason I can come up with is the stuff was never packed and shippped to us.

Hi LL

It sounds to me like thieving to order. It happens a lot including with house burglaries.

I used to act for a villain. He rang me one morning in a heck of a paddy. His house had been burgled and a couple of TVs plus a video player had been pinched. I asked him whether these items had been on the warm side to start with? He spluttered that this wasn't the point! I decided not to bicker with him about the moral issues....

Is there a reason why you have started this thread in the New Zealand section, please? If you would like it moved to another section, please say.

Cheers

Gill

Hi Gill,

Reason for posting in "other country" forum, is to gain a wider picture of the problem.
John mason claim that their staff are honest and trustworthy and suggest mildly that either Sydney customs "may have kept the missing items" - yeah sure, sacked if caught watched on CCTV... OR that I may havel eft them in the UK OR I may be making a false claim...in somany words.

I have no doubt that Jack and Jill will come back and say "JM are grear we had no trouble and they even made a brew for us." Jim & Gertie will reply to say they lost everything including the kitchen sink".
BUT as you know, gathering a wide range of experinces helps to get a clear the picture.
Fact is we were originally with Crown, but a good mention on here and the fact that they were £500 less than Crown.. made us change shipper.

Most people just give up and accept it as part of the deal.

Quite simply we allowed two strangers employed by John Mason into our home to pack it up for shipping. It was impossible to watch every move..and why should we have to? - but at the end of their two day session...we were left with everything we wanted in Aussie NOT in the house and loaded onto a John Mason van.
I have photo's of every room, not for proof of them taking stuff, but showing teh stuff we sold to the house buyer as proof it was left in the house. ( they had tried many ways to shyster us and I expected a claim that we had not left in situ what had been agreed. The point is ...we checked everything after the packers asked us too.

IF, JM had simply said ..sorry we have no explanation- however you are insured... I could have been more on their side..having been an employer who employed a thieving sod. But did not know it till she decamped! These things haoppen.
JM staff added deep insult to injury by the ridiculous suggestions.

Our stuff went on their van.... it did not arrive in Australia. Between the two it was in the care and contracted control of John Mason International movers.

Apart from the other good stuff missing..is a panoramic photo..framed, of The Louvre Paris. We were their in 1997...just about 7 days before the Diana thing!

The frame was nothing special and in fact far better frames - all packed by the gruesom twosom - arrived safe! It defies logic..but its still missing!

So, my idea is to create a website on which the events involving our stuff and the "aftersales " service via the insurance - who I suspect will really expect me to have reciepts for stuff I bought at a craft fair 10 years ago!

By gathering information if other victimes will contibute... will show a pattern.

If JM like to comment fine, I cannot believe we are their only customers to have lost things...and if thats the case, they should be investigationg why customers property is missing.
And I also think that where others accept and move on, it helps to hide the problem. bring it out into th eopen and after a few punters dont book because XXXXX movers - who show has having a lot of losses... then maybe theft from shipments will be removed from the already stressful process of moving your home and your life across the world.

I respectfuly request that PIO understand the greater picture and understand my long term motive - and allow the posts to be seen by those looking at a new life in places other than Australia.

TIA..
