Oz to NZ

Hi there,
My husband is NZ born but also Aus citizen. I am applying for spouse visa to Australia, should get granted permanent subclass 100 spouse visa.
Does anyone know if I can go to live in NZ on this visa? We are going to Australia but may well want to spend a year or so in NZ.
Also, if we can get into NZ on the Aus visa, can I then get back into Aus again!!!
Confused!!!

Hi,

This is some text from the University of Canterbury (NZ) web site for their new international/Australian students. It applies to you also...

"The following information applies to Australian Citizens and residents of Australia with full and valid Australian Returning Residents Visas. If you are an Australian resident who has entered New Zealand, you will have been given an indefinite New Zealand Residence Permit by immigration at the New Zealand border when you entered the country. This means that you are a New Zealand resident. Note: If you are in Australia on an Australian Temporary Residence Visa you do not qualify for a New Zealand Residence Permit at the New Zealand border"

So basically when you arrive at the NZ airport you automatically get NZ residency that allows you to live and work :-)

It's also confusing when Immigration NZ talk about visas and permits. Unlike other countries you don't get a visa at the border, you get a 'permit' stamp (permission) in your passport; a permit to enter. In NZ the visa is different and is usually issued prior to arrival so that border staff know what permit (permission ) to give when you arrive. In your case you don't need a NZ visa as your Australian Returning Resident status allows the NZ border control to give you a permit to enter NZ. Most countires use the word visa to cover both the authority and permission.

To further confuse this, Immigration NZ were thinking of changing the permit system to copy the more widely accepted visa only system.
