Rental Properties Illawara
Hi All
We are really struggling to find a rental property in the Illawara region. We have tried the usual websites Domain & Real Estate, also approached the usual rental agents.
Does anyone have any tips to help with our property find?
Looking for a 3 bedroom house, with a yard big enough for 1 and half dogs (terrier and labordor) close to dog friendly areas.
Any recommendations for decent areas would be help we have a reasonable weekly budget.
Thanks

Hi **
Haven't got any other tips (Domain and RE is where I am currently looking, or the local paper) but when u say ure struggling, do you mean struggling to find what you're looking for or struggling to get an application accepted? "They" say there's not enough properties for renters on the market so with the better places you'll be up against possibly half dozen other applicants

Unfortunately Flappy, the lack of social housing in the Illawarra has forced many young families into the private rental market, thats what the problem is, as you drive around the suburbs, you sometimes see signs outside houses saying for lease.
It seems you have been into the real estate offices, most of the real estate agents have rentals on their books, but not everyone will accept animals.

Hi Flappy, we struggled to find a rental in the Illawarra when we first arrived (2 adults, 1 child and a cat). Lots of competition even for the shabby places! We kept looking and eventually found a private landlord who advertised on domain. I think pets put landlords off especially if they have potential tenants with none. Also it is tricky if you have no rental history and a job that you have only just started. Try offering a couple of months rent up front and make sure any applications include a letter confirming your employment. Also look in the Illawarra Mercury on Saturday as there are sometimes rivate landlords who advertise there. Hope this helps.
