G'day mate, any help?
Bathurst Area, New South Wales - About Australia
Bathurst has a population of about 13,000 and there are 12 schools varying from kinder/preschool to high schools and boarding schools. There is a good shopping area.
Mt Panorama is prominent in Australia as the premier motor racing circuit.
It is about 2.5 hours, drive from Sydney and 55 km from Orange (pop. 35,000).
Incidentally, the gold for the 2000 olympic games medals was mined at Orange.
Cheers, Bobj.

I have been to Bathurst a few times and found it to be a very nice town, set in very nice countryside in the middle of several other country towns of varying sizes, Bathurst has all you will need in shopping, has nice wide roads which gives a feeling of space and has plenty of good quality housing and facilities. Please bear in mind that it is an Australian country town and is quite different to an english country town, it is a lot more rural.
The state government for many years now has been promoting living in country NSW to take the pressure of mainly Sydney and so a lot of investment has been going into the country towns to encourage people to move there, not just immigrants but Australians as well.
Country life also is a lot more laid back than the cities which can be stressful and so you will find life slower but you can always find something to do once you settle in and make friends.
As mentioned earlier, Mount Panorama is one of the best racing circuits in Australia, and the town is a hive of activity during race time.
Hope this helps, for more information you could type Bathurst into google, and I have found you will get a lot more information if you go to Australian google first then type Bathurst.

My wife is from Hay - which is a VERY small town miles from anywhere. I've been to Bathurst a few times though. It depends what you want out of life. It would bore me senseless - there is not a lot there and its miles form anything I think is worth doing. What type of job etc do you expect to find there? It will be tough to find ANY job there I woudl think at this moment in time. Thats not to say its not a nice town - it very much is. Simply its the difference betwen a visit and staying .....

Yup typical NSW country town. Very nice for a visit and if you want a quiet life then it would be the place to be. At least the accommodation would be relatively cheap and if you can get a job then it would be OK but it is a bit out of the way and it can get very hot in summer just like most inland towns. It's got a campus of Charles Sturt there if you want to do further education but expect your kids to fly the coop once they get to uni age - kids do tend to move away from the rural townships for the bright lights of the cities.

I agree with all the comments made so far but as regards employment well things may not be quite as bad as you would expect, this appeared in the media only a week or so ago.
Trades shortage in Bathurst - Local News - News - General - Western Advocate
Of course that doesn't mean it's going to be easy to get employment if you are not in the industries where there is a shortage but at least it's a bit of encouragement.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
