Hi Jane. I am a single mum (of a 9-year old boy) also looking to move to Sydney. I am thinking I will try to get a job and an employer sponsored visa. I have started approaching potential employers (I am a uni lecturer) and they seem fairly positive. I have a house to sell. It is a bit scary but exciting also. Hi Libby.

Glad to hear that someone else is coming to Sydney alone! It is both scary but very exciting.

I would say apply for permanent residency if you can wait, for financial reasons. Have you thought about getting permission from your son's father, it can be a long process.

job offer Oct 1st 08
Registration accepted Jan 09
Labour agreement passed April 09
Visa application sent June 10 09
awaiting approval.

Email from employer stating changes to Labour agreement, if not passed by 30th June will expire as changing rules again in several months. No plans yet for new Labour agreement.

House sold and in rental, was hoping to go Oct 09 but now very dissappointed if does not go through.

New nomination granted 17/7 under subclass 121
CO allocated 21/8 medicals/Police checks requested
Had medicals 18/9 everything else sent awaiting response and ?visa passed
So frustrating waiting and not knowing whats happening, no way of chasing progress when posting application. Keep emailing but dont get a response.
Best way is to ring them, which I will doing very soon as getting very inpatient.
Ready to go, been in rental for 6 months just waiting to hand in notices etc and wanting to fly out by end Jan 09 but you never know????

Currently i'm still waiting the process of Visa 176 to be granted up until now (majoring in IT). I finish 1 yr study of Master of Education and 1 yr study of Diploma Business Management in Australia. Just want to ask, Can i add Graduate Skill Visa application (visa 485 )while my visa 176 still ongoing??..because i called the immigration, and they said my visa process still on hold until 2012.

How far into process: Sponsorship Approved today (complicated as my Co. thought it had been approved already back in 2008 however it had expired.
Nomination lodged 16 Feb 10 and personal application lodged 21 Feb 10.
Have case officer - things seem to be moving forward.
