Sue, there are not many indigenous Australians at all in the Illawarra, I have worked with quite a few over the years & found the majority of them to be decent people, just like any other culture.
There are plenty of smash repair shops here, look in the Wollongong yellow pages.

The house prices have hit the roof this year.
This has happened all around Oz Sue, like the rest of the world, we are also suffering from higher interest rates, increasing fuel prices etc, I've seen all this happen before, so it's all part of life really.
Many business's are feeling the pinch at the moment, especially the building trade, people are a bit wary of buying new homes at the moment & waiting for a turn around in the economy, needless to say many builders may be facing being out of work for a while.
We went through this kind of thing in the 80's when the interest rate hit about 17%, the coalmines & steelworks started winding down their operations & many finished up out of work, including me, it's very hard to pay a mortgage & feed 3 kids when things like that happen, but we weathered the storm for18 months until things got back to what we called normal.
After that episode, my wife started working again for the first time since we got married & we started paying off all the bills, I now look back and think however did we manage, but we did, life is all about making the right choices for you & yours and not living beyond your means, never take anything for granted, a job is like a life, it can be here today and gone tomorrow, so you have to make the best of it whilst you have it.
We came here for the sun, sand and surf, and a better environment for our kids, so we have never been dissapointed, family & friends said we would be back within 2 years, 38 years later, we are still here, they have all been here to see us and are quite jealous of the lifestyle & environment we now take for granted.
Do your homework & plenty of research, one persons dream can be another persons nightmare, so beware.
thanks skippy
all i do is research research research
think my husband and kids are going to divorce me because am never off this dam computer
i wouldnt move to the other side of the world not knowing anything about it.
am not that soft
its either adelaide or nsw for us and i research EVERYDAY, because thats where we want to bring our 4 boys up and they both look fab am torn between the 2
We are in the same situation,we are all ready to go,got our visas, plane tickets booked to adelaide Sept 1,but we just research and research and the more we do it,the more the drive to go to The Gong,it just seems that adelaide is over rated for what it has got to offer.I have got job offers too.But I am prepared to move our flights in October as our visas needs validating Oct 11,and go what is best for us.So,hubby is arranging some job prospects and probably me too, whatever comes first. There are plenty of jobs when we looked at NSW health for wollongong hospital and shelharbour.
Hi I really liked the gong, but unfortuately did not spend nearly enough time there. We toured around and fell in love with the scenery and beaches and the kind people we met. It has all ticked all of our wish list boxes so far. Research is the key and I think this web site has helped alot of people, and skippy (sing your praises again my friend) has been so helpful to lots of us. We plan to start of in this region and give it a go..if it doesnt work out then we can always move on.. Im planning to give it a good whorl though and stick through the hard times as im sure there will be many to come. Lifes to short to be worrying about any what ifs.. Personally I CANNOT WAIT....!!!! first thing we do...track down skippy and buy him a drink...or two....
i have been on poms in adelaide for 5 months now and have met lots of lovely people in oz and in the uk.
they have lots of meet ups here and in oz, coffee mornings kids parks with the little uns etc
i feel as if i know them already and its helps because and really nevous about our move(just like everyone else)
does anyone do that sort of stuff on this site, am feeling everyones really nice so far
thanks suexxx

One thing about this area RVN, you can drive to Melbourne or Brisbane in 12 hours, be in Canberra in a couple of hours, spend as long as you like looking at the suburbs of Sydney etc, so checking out other places before you move on is quite easy from this area.
A mug of flat white does me thesedays, I'm not hard to please, ha ha.
My OH is a panel beater and we would be interested if anyone knows of any large insurance approved repair centres?
He currently works for Churchill and prefers a large company to a small one. Any suggestions?
We arent settled on an area but would like Northern beaches or Coffs Harbour.
