Hi Y'all
Flighing out to Sydney at the start of June and am looking to move to the Illawarra. Was just wondering what the job situation is like there. Im a Maintenance Electrician but am looking for a job in Manufacturing or Machine Operations. Willing to do anything really that will earn a livable wage (50k+). OH is an Occupational Therapists but is also willing to do something else. Any help or ideas would be great.

Ye, had a look on a few job sites. I think what I really need to know is if there are many manufacturing companies in the area. If there is Im bound to get a job doing something I fancy Electrical Maintenance, Manufacturing or Machine Operating. OH has got a job interview on Monday morning (05:00) over the phone for a job in mount druitt Sydney. Heard its not the 'best' of areas. So dont know how enthusiastic to be. Do we just go to where we fancy (Illawarra) or go where the work is? Hummm......

pdj, there are quite a few manufacturing companies around the Port Kembla & surrounding area, but not quite sure if there are any jobs going, have you tried the Centrelink website or Illawarra mercury [local paper] best days to look are Thurs, Fri & Sat.

Mt Druitt is known as a rough area, ?????????????????????????????????
I would rather live in Port Kembla than that place to be honest.

i'm an OT working for dept of aging disability & home care in the illawarra. but at the moment our dept has no vacancies. if you check the south east sydney and Illawarra health service website South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Area Health Service - Home Page there are vacancies listed at various grades in wollongong , shellharbour , kiama, port kembla and nowra. All closer to wollongong than mt druit and nicer locations too. there are often jobs in work rehab companies which are usually listed on SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site. good luck, if you want more info PM me
