Newcastle Suburbs

Hi there, can anyone recommend a family-friendly suburb in Newcastle. We are a family of 7 with 5 kids ranging from 1 month to 10 years, 4 of them are boys so lots of wide open spacesare required!! Thanks!

Hi, sorry not to get back quicker! It looks like another thread may have some answers, although I really would like to know more about areas closer to the centre or even the uni. Husband is determined not to get 2 cars and wants to walk or cycle to work.

Hi,

We live in Charlestown, just 10 mins from Newcastle. Good public travel, good schools, near shops, beach, reserve and Lake Macquarie. Ideal spot for us (oldies) and families alike. Our son and his family live within 15 minutes walk of us. The Lake is a lovely area to live and Warners Bay is one of our favourite spots. Walks, childen's play areas, boating, good road and bus links and only 15 mins or so from Newcastle itself. Take a look at the Lake Macquarie website for a taster! We feel that Charlestown is great for families and it is a growing area all within only a short drive to some lovely beaches. Good Luck!

Linda

Hi all
quite agree with linda, having lived in charlestown and now in warners bay. theses areas are great. the closer you move to the city you will find smaller gardens/space between houses, if you like that, ok. Have stayed in Hamilton south, on beaumont street when first over, this is a nice area with trendy cafe's etc same as The junction and Darby street(closest to city).
I would say just get 2 cars and enjoy the space and lifestyle, get out on the lake, around C/town and war/bay, we won't be moving away from here, having only been here for 17moinths.

Thanks so much for the advice, I must say space is pretty important to me so it sounds like moving a little bit further will give us that.
