Wollongong Next month - any tips?

Hello,
we (hopefully) are comming to wollongong/illawarra in the first week in June to do a reccie... so any one recommend things to do and see to get a feel for the place?(not neccassarily tourist things...) Or good/cheap places to stay or eat?

Anyone about in the area that wants to give us a tour...?

Lucky you, it is truly beautiful there - I was there a couple of weeks ago and that is where we plan on living if the nice Mr Immigration Man ever gets his finger out and lets us go, or even gives us a Case Officer for that matter.

Skippy and Cookiecat are the experts on the Illawarra Region. I'm sure they will reply with much more detail than I could ever give.

Gday Megss, try Illawarra tourism, it should have links to motels etc, also Wollongong Yellow Pages.
Fancy coming just when we are coming into Winter, ha ha, bring a jumper.
If I'm free at that time, I will give you a tour of this area.
When seeking accomodation, I would only book in for a couple of nights at first to see what the place is like, then you can choose whether to stay or find somewhere else, I will PM you my phone number so that you can contact me when you get here.

Thanks guys!

As for the time of year - i have a theory that if you like somewhere in the winter, then you'll love it in the summer!! Only thing we won't get a feel for is what its like during the tourist season.

Thanks Skippy, i have PM'd you.

I totaly agree that if you like it in Winter, etc, etc, the days are still what Pommies would call warm [18 to 20] but the nights feel cool to us when it gets to 8 deg, accomodation is cheaper at this time of year too.

Our beaches are many, so there is always room for many more people, it's the main hwy to & from Sydney that gets a bit crowded when people come down here on holidays or when they are on there way home.

Hi Meg

Have a nice trip!

Now to make you aware whatch out for speed cameras they do have them, but more important School Zones get there speed reduced to 20kms during drop off and pick up times, there will be road signs to remind you but take care. The police do check!

I think schools in the UK should have there zones reduced to 20mph at drop off and pick up times.

Good Stuff

Batemans bay or BB as i know it, its a great place i have been there and over the last three years had some good investment but still along way to go. (Some family live there)
If you visit BB go to Pebbly Beach there are wild kangaroos on the beach!

Kiama: Love this place typical Oz area i think. oh Tourist thing there "Kiama Blow Hole"

Dolphin watching: go to Jervis bay if you want to see Dolphins and go on a boat trip, dont tell everyone though.

Shellharbour: Shopping centre there so you can see what to expect

Berry: Old style oz village nice and quite

Accomadation? dont know i stayed with family in and around these area's

You will go through loads of towns around this area, Wollongong is worth seeing as far as Shops etc.

Hope this helps.

Life is not a Dream but you can make them Happen!
