Scooting round Illawara

Hey Skippy, guru of all things Illawara, can I have your thoughts please?

I have suggested to my husband that when that Nice Mr Immigration Man lets us go and live in Illawara, instead of buying two cars, we buy one car for 'best' and a couple of scooters.

The theory behind it is that scooters will be more economical/green (couldn't believe how much petrol prices have gone up over there! Although I shouldn't have been surprised seeing as how much they have gone up here).

I can see us zipping along those lovely open roads on our his n hers scooters like a couple of old 60's mods!

I think it's a great idea, but hubby not that convinced. What do you think?

Jean

skippy is an unknown quantity at this point
Jean, it's a personal thing, I've had motorcycles all my life, but decided to stop riding over 10 years ago because of the silly car & truck drivers here, my wife & I nearly went under a coal truck some years ago when we hit a pot hole, which was over the brow of a hill & the coal truck was on the wrong side of the road, another time the back draught from a truck nearly caused me to lose control, roads get very slippery here too after rain because of spilt diesel on the roads & oil from the gum trees, plus the wildlife can run out at anytime, those damn flies & bee's feel like bullets when they hit you too.
Nowadays I choose to drive a car for my own protection, the P plate drivers & truckies here are like kamakazi pilots, sorry if it's not the answer you wanted, but as I said, it's a personal thing & I want to enjoy my retirement, there are many people riding bikes these days, and it's a wonderful feeling, but by the time you have put on all the protective clothing and the full face helmet, I find that driving around with the window down on the car gives me that lovely feeling of the wind in my hair.

Mmmm. Typical man, far too practical. No romance.

I hadn't thought about flies and things in the face. That clinches it, two cars - sod the cost and being green!

Thanks for bringing me back down to earth.

Jean
