North Rocks is pleasant and a safe neighbourhood. Transport, well the nearest and most efficient station would be Pennant Hills or Beercroft. Driving you could try the M2, but that is turning into a carpark.
By the time you take your car to the station, park, catch the train, walk to your office/place of work, your looking at 1hr 20min min. Not bad considering it's only a 18 miles north of the CBD!!
