From what all our Members in Oz are saying, mortgage woes have hit every suburb in Oz because of the escalating interest rates. 8-9% (the last I heard) is simply too high for the domestic property market.

The people who find themselves in trouble are those who borrowed much more than they should have for the amount they earn. Although I believe they were stupid, I also blame the banks for allowing this to happen. In the past people were limited to repayments of one quarter of one person's income. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to apply. As a consequence, house prices have risen, because of demand, and when interest rates rise more people are in trouble
