Serviced Apartments - Sydney

Hi there,

We've been granted our permanent residents visas and fly out in June 08. Before we settle in an area in Sydney we'd like to rent a serviced apartment for approx one month. Does anyone have any suggestions that *won't* bankrupt us!!??

Please please please?

Cheers, S, L and H

Hey there Meet the Proctors...

Me and Russ are now only 4 weeks away from our leaving date, and are also looking for a short term let before we settle on a specific are (although are our trip to Sydney a couple of weeks ago, Balmain has won it for us!)

I've been looking around and serviced apartments seem VERY expensive. I found this website called apartments plus (Sydney Apartments Furnished Accommodation. Apartments Plus Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane. Gold Coast) and there seems to be loads of apartments for rent with a minimum term of 1 week. I visited their office when I was in Sydney, and the girl was most helpful and said to send them an email when we have a date, give them our price range and they'll get searching. The listed prices off the website do not include a one off exit cleaning fee of around $190. So if you're there for a month or so, it's nothing really.

The serviced apartments that I've seen advertised all seem to be priced around $300 a night!!! On apartments plus, they have some inner city apartments for less than $800 a week.

I hope that helps. Let me know how you get on.

Cheers

Cam

Well we have had a quick search on that site WOW now you're talking!! Seems like what we're looking for is within reach.

That's a great help and I'm sure we will explore the site further. We love the lower North Shore so that's where we will begin our days in Sydney looking for a more family friendly area in the long term.

Thanks a lot for the response, good luck to you guys.

Funny you should ask, yet another email response to say no availability for a 4 week stay. I have contacted a couple of estate agents in Sydney regarding setting up an unfurnished rental prior to arrival but have been advised this is not possible, (see content below). Which is a shame as we have a pretty clear idea of where in Sydney we want to be.

I have only started trying to arrrange something this week as I have some time off work and have just sent an email off to Apartments Plus as suggested by Cam. Hopefully that brings back something positive. The whole serviced apartment option is pricey but I'm not convinced that 4 weeks is enough to find a more long term rental. I have heard horror stories of numerous applicants for one apartment.

To be continued . . . . .

Good Luck

We have many people that come from overseas and if they own their own home they bring evidence from perhaps a real estate agent that is looking after it or references from their new employer. The more organised you are the better. We can’t rent you an apartment without seeing it so you need to arrive and then start looking around maybe stay in a furnished short term furnished till you work out which area you would like to live. Sorry it’s a bit too early to help you sort out something for June.

Hi Meet the Proctors

I spoke to my brother about this very concern this week having read about renting in Sydney and how long it would take to get somewhere. He and his girlfriend both looked for rented accommodation when they first arrived in Sydney (separately) and it took no more than 2 weeks on 3 occasions.

This might be because they were only looking at 2 bed apartments but that was there experience.

It made me feel a little easier about it. We are in a similar situation - we fly into Sydney on May 15th and will be looking for somewhere on the northern shores / beaches. I think if it was just me and my oh I wouldn't worry so much but with 2 little kids in tow I feel I need to sort something ahead of arriving. The beach just won't do !

I have been sitting online for about two hours this morning trying to find a serviced apartment that will accomodate us for 4 weeks and something that is suitable for our son who will just have turned before we arrive and with a budget of $700 or less per week I'm really strugling. Loads of long term rentals looking on Domain.com.au so I'm sure will will find something long term without too much trouble. Its having something suitable affordable initially when we land that has me worried.
