Advice on Sydney
Hi All! Im new to this site, i've been looking for a good forum for people moving to oz and looks like i've finally found it!
Id really appreciate any advice people have on living in Sydney. Im 32, IT professional, (Not a computer geek tho! )
I love going out clubbing, and I often DJ on the weekends. A friend of mine who runs a record lable has licenced me to use the name out in oz and maybe start my own club night.
What im after is a bit of advice on where to live. I know i know, its going ot be different for everyone, but based on what you know, any advice would be more than welcome.
Hi Phil
I'm living in Sydney myself but as I'm an oldie can't really advise on where a young thing like you might prefer to live but I'm sure there are others out there than can help! Just wanted to say welcome to the site and I'm sure you'll love Sydney! It's very hard to advise someone about where to live as it depends on what they prefer, ie City, country or beach and budget.....

I'm too old now to advize on 'where it's at' in Sydney but I think you won't go far wrong in one of the inner city suburbs like Darlinghurst, Kngs Cross, Surry Hills, Newtown, Enmore, Glebe, Chippendale, possibly Bondi Beach. Apart from Bondi they are all very handy for the City and Sydney Uni is close too.
Yep, sounds like either Darlinghurst/Paddington/Kings Cross or the inner west: Newtown, Enmore , Chippendale would be what you're looking for. That's not to say you wouldn't go down well at the Gosford RSL.
Depends whereabouts in Bondi you live - my daughter's boyfriend lives near Bondi Junction and it takes him 8 minutes on the train from there to the City.....
Whereabouts in Sydney are you MaryRose?

Hi Karen
My unit is on the corner of Elizabeth and Goodlet Streets, Surry Hills just short of Cleveland St but I'm in Southampton. I bought my unit in 1987 when I was working at Garden Island but when I was made redundant in 1996, I came back to England for a 'holiday'. I like Surry Hills because you can walk everywhere - the SCG, the City, Paddo, Newtown. I used to walk to Garden Island often. I don't know if I'll ever go back to my unit but then I did not plan on coming back here either. I'm definitely coming back to Sydney though.

Thanks for the input, how much would i be looking at renting a place for? I've heard that its a bit pricey in the city (As with most cities). I'd be looking for a one or two bed apartment as im going to be moving out on my own.
Hi Dave,
I'm not that far from Surry Hills, we're in East Botany - other end of Botany Road! We like it there as it's so near the City (although not walking distance!) and also 10 minutes from nearest beach so best of both worlds. You've had a long holiday in Southampton but at least you have somewhere to come back to in Sydney....
