Ken it's a great place to live, have you seen the pics on Sydney suburbs that I put on there about this area? it's now on page 2.
Many Sydneysiders are moving to this area for the great environment we live in, great beaches, national parks with waterfalls etc just over the mountain range, all the shops anyone needs these days, etc, etc, the house prices are well below the prices you pay in the suburbs of Sydney & yet we are ony 90 mins away from the centre of Sydney.
People keep telling me there isn't much work around, but I don't know of anyone that is unemployed, except for the ones that milk the system, I've been to Queensland and Perth many times to visit our kids, they have now returned to God's country, but it's horses for courses and this place suites me fine.
I was only talking to a couple last week that have lived in the S/W suburbs of Sydney & came down to visit family, they are now thinking of selling up and moving to this area themselves, years ago the Port Kembla steelworks put people off, but they soon change their opinion of the place once they have seen it.
Hi Ken, we live at the opposite end of the Illawarra to Skippy. We are in Stanwell Park, not my cup of tea, too exclusive. Prior to Stanny we lived in Thirroul (both north of w'gong) and love it. So much so that we are moving back there as soon as our lease is up.
The whole Illawarra is amazing. Beautiful landscape, nestled between the escarpment (mountains) and the sea. The north suits me as it has the large villiage atmosphere that I like without being too small (stanny is too small, hence my dislkie) We are well served by shops, jobs are good, never bored on a weekend.
If you are planning on commuting for work, the freeway will get you to the outskirts of Sydney withing about 15-20 mins, then it depends on traffic the rest of the way. Generally it will take about 1.30 to the centre of Sydney. I dont commute, but hubby does and he thinks its worth it considering he gets to relax in the Illawarra on the weekend.
We planned on being here a year to try it out then move to Sydney if it didnt suit, that was 18 months ago and we are staying put (once we move back to Thirroul that it)
Whoo HOoooo
our holiday to oz is fast approaching, after a 9 month wait...as of the weekend we will be in Sydney!! Part of our trip is to do a recce visit to Wollongong.... can anyone give us some ideas of must do/see places to visit ( or to avoid for that matter!)
By the way skippy, those photos do not put us off!!!!
oh man...are you tricking me??? thats not good news rain and storms...we have spent our life savings booking this holiday and its going to storm and rain...I could have stayed here for that..
We went to France last year and the same happened then....Im going to kill my OH..he said it was going to be mid summer when we arrive....pah...not a happy bunny.... guess it will be soggy fish and chips then.....
Summer officially started here on December the 1st, we have had more rain so far than we have had at this time of year in 15 years, the best times to visit Oz in my opinion are Spring & Autumn, no flies and you don't fry either.
Look at the positives, your life savings will be worth 2 of our life savings the way things are here at the moment.
HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS & may the sun shine for you.
ah thanks skippy..guess you guys really need the rain over there eh? finished work to day..whooo hooo (after a really depressing day I might add!) so oz here we come.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE.........AND HERES TO A EVEN BETTER NEW YEAR.
