Yeah we heard about the York meet in the chatroom the other night, so we're going to try and keep that weekend free so we can go. :)

Be fun to meet some other Oz-bound folks in person.

We're headed off to the Hunter Valley as well (not for a couple of years yet though :( ) The inlaws live in Hinton (home of the flooding and the pub that had emergency beer brought in on the SES rescue boats!!) but that's a tad too rural for us so we're going to Raymond Terrace.

It's a gorgeous area, really lovely and I can't wait to get there again. Only 11 months till we next visit.

Hi All
We beat you to it. Moved to Newcatsle 17 months ago, with 3 kids and the dog. Have lived in Charlestown and now Warners Bay, excellent high school and primary schools around this area. Couldn't have come to a nicer area if we tried. People very friendly making more friends each week it seems. Found work quickly. Wife runs our new Hair Salon. Belmont is lovely as is anywhere around Lake Macquarie. Nelson Bay would be around 45min to 1hr from Belmont. Anymore help you need let us know and see if we cant help you all. good luck
Shaun

Shaun, quick question for you if you don't mind. We're making our move to Oz in early August, and though Sarah's job takes us to Tamworth for 2-3 months first, in October we'll be settling in Newcastle. A friend of a friend has reccomended Charlestown, I was wondering what you made of it?

You've obviously since moved, so did you not like it, or was Warners Bay just more right for you?

It's the two of us and we're in our early/mid 20s, so ideally we want good access to facilities and the like, being the hip and happening people we are lol.

Hi there, it looks like we will be heading for Newcastle in the New Year and I need to know about schools for my 10, 8, 6 and 4 years olds. You say they are excellent in Warners Bay, can you recommend a website or somewhere to find out the info that isn't the usual official stuff? Anything you have would be great - thanks!

Hi All, we've been in Newcastle for years and love it, so are thinking we might try and see if it's just as good flip side!
It's great to see there are a few others considering this area. We have positive skills assessment now so are in a position to apply for a visa, although we need to extend passports first. As I said we are very happy with where we live, as are our children so we are still weighing up the pro's and con's of doing this, but we are fancying a bit of adventure and doing a bit more in our short time on this planet, but OOH we are a teeny bit TERRIFIED.
Pleased to hear it has worked for you as a family and would be interested to hear more of your story and how your children have found life down under.
We sat wondering last night about the nights in Oz, being June we have the lovely long nights here at the moment and the kids are enjoying playing out. What are your days/nights like in NSW, we've been trying to work out when it goes dark, am I right it's by approx 7pm?
Any info appreciated, hope you continue to enjoy it.
Chris
