Hi
Check out the NSW education website NSW Government Portal - Education Topic
It should have all you need on it.
I'm not there yet so I've found it very helpful.

It depends when your daughter turns 5. If she is 5 before the end of next July then she will be able to start in February. If not you have to wait until the following year. However, even if she is 5 before the end of July, you will find that most people with children as young as that do not send them to school, they hold them back from school for a year and send them the following year. It is completely you choice though. This info if for the public system - if you are looking at private schools the age limit is different and you would need to contact schools individually.

If you search in Google for NSW school holidays you should get the list of when they are - you can change the year, so you can see for next year as well.

Hope that helps

Daphne

Hi,

Not sure if it's different for different states, but we are heading for Brisbane, and I've just been told that my 4yo son will not be able to start the preschool year (our reception classes) until Jan 2008!!!! He would be going to reception here in Sept, but to get into preschool year over there he had to be 5 by the end of Dec this year. As his birthday is Jan he wont be 5 and they won't take him until the following year. I am going to talk to the school again once we arrive (about 6 weeks ish) but that's the answer I've got at the moment. Not sure what to do as he has been going to playschool 5 mornings a week and really is ready for school now! We will have to wait and see what they say. This is for the state school we will be using. My 11yo will start year 7 in Jan, but he will be re-doing a couple of months of year 6 from Oct - Dec. If you think I can be of any help, feel free to pm. Nicky.x
