Hi,

My daughter is going to a school in gosford, on the Central coast and the fees for her school are about 3 Thousand dollars for the year, also you have to buy the uniform and books which you can sometimes pick up second hand, I did that with most of her books this year she has just gone into year 8 and is 13, when are you coming over and where to Frances

Sorry forgot to say she is going to a Catholic School and they are Private here, the Public schools I think you just pay for some books, the fees are not as high Frances

Hi frances

We are just at the early stages as yet - doing our figurework at the moment to see if we are going to be better or worse off financially. Jobs better around Sydney area & we have a friend in Newcastle so hoping for there if we do come.
How do you like it?

HI

HI again,

It takes a while to settle and you don't realise how much until you get here, but we will get there it is hard once you realise you have left people behind and then you realise how far away they are, but having said that it is lovely on the coast where we are we haven't seen much yet, but will do, it is good you have a friend here, as we didn't know anyone, my husband is working in Newcastle at the moment he is a Vehicle Sprayer, I am finding it hard to get a job here on the coast but it is like any coastal area for getting jobs. It only took us 7 months to get our visas we went through an Agent are you going to do the same? some friends of ours have just arrived in Perth to live. Let me know how you get on Take care Frances

Hi again Frances

We are only going to be able to come over if we get job sponsorship thru my husband. he has applied to tonnes of companies (pharamaceutical) so we arent buidling are hopes too high as yet!

My daughter is wanting to move - very enthusiastic about it & we are eager to do it sooner rather than later (teenagers change their minds!). She is a happy girl but to be honest the quality of her friends here are poor . She goes to a highly ranked school but a lot of them are smoking/drinking/boys etc already. I know it happens everywhere & it's down to the individual but I wondered how has your daughter found the teenage girls there? She is a very mature sensible girl but not a swotty geek!! (her words not mine!!) likes music fashion make up etc.
We would have to move locations here in the Uk with a job change so that's why we are trying somewhere where we feel it will not only be better for us but better for my daughter & her future family.

Thanks

Hi

You only have to pay a contribution for the year, this year we paid $40 toward my son's schooling but he is in a public school.

Hi Everyone

It depends what sort of visa you are coming on as to what fees you pay. If you are on a PR visa then you just pay the same as the Australians do for public schooling - around $50 - 200 per year to cover the cost of books etc. However, if you come on a temp visa then that's where you get stung. You have to pay school fees of up to about $6000 per year just to go to a local public school. Many companies who sponsor people to come out of Australia will actually pay this charge for you, but you would need to check that. This rule only applies for NSW - seems a little unfair, but that's the way it is.

Hope that helps

Daphne
