Arrival

HI everyone we have arrived in N.S.W and have been here two weeks myself Mark Stephen and Rebecca we are currently staying with friends in Saratoga which is a lovely place but we are looking round for a job for Mark at the moment he is a Vehicle Sprayer can anyone give us any contacts for work on the coast as there only seems to be work in Sydney. So far so good and we think it is lovely here we were going to go to Perth originally but have decided to stay here if we can find jobs. Would love to speak to anyone else who has just arrived to see how you are getting on Frances 8)

Hi Frances,

I've put in several of my posts that this is a big downside to Oz that even though there is space, most of the jobs are very concentrated to a few cities. The reason everyone is in Syd, Melb, Bris etc is because that's where the corporate work is.

Having said that, being a vehicle sprayer I'd be surprised if your husband couldn't find a job locally. Saratoga is Central Coast isn't it? plenty of hoons up there smashing their cars up, must be loads of work

Hi Frances, and welcome to NSW.

I used to visit a friend in Saratoga on a weekly basis, and it's a lovely area. I suppose you'll already have been around all the body repair shops in the Gosford and surrounding areas - outskirts of Sydney will be your next move then.

Good luck with finding something very soon. Hope you enjoy your new life.

Hi Frances, have you tried the dealerships around West Gosford? If they don't have spraypainters of their own they will point you in the right direction. Lots of tradies up there work for themselves. Good luck. :)

Rebecca
hi there

We arrived into Sydney a week ago and still feeling jet lag! how are you feeling?

We have had some interviews set up and have been busy attending those. I'm an engineer and my husband is in the IT, so I can't very much in your husband's field. I hope someone here can give you advice.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi! Talk soon.

Rebecca

Hi

We too are in Sydney. We have bought a house in Beaumont Hills which is about 10 mins from Castle Hill and it's a really nice area. Schools are good and the houses are big, just depends on what you can afford.

The best places to look for office work that pays well are the business parks, so North Ryde, Norwest Business Park and the City of course, you unfortunately won't get the same rate that you were getting in the UK but then the lifestyle is so different.

I'm only looking for part time work as I've got 2 kids and childcare is expensive over here ($50 per day per child) but there seems to be loads of full time jobs about.

If any of you need a chat, just email on here or PM me.

Take care and good luck

Jackie Cornish

Hi Jackie

We live just north of Castle Hill. If you fancy meeting for coffee sometime then give me a shout. I'm meeting up with a (pommy) friend tomorrow for lunch - not sure where yet - maybe at the Towers - you are welcome to join us.

Daphne
