All Aussies laugh when you say you are going to Canberra. It was only built coz they couldn't decide between Sydney and Melbourne what the capital should be. "Let's build one in between then". It's Ok for a day visit but apart from that don't bother. It was freezing cold when I went as well.

Sydney was the capital. Victoria then became it's own state. Therefore, to make things fair the govt decided to locate the Parliament House half way between Melbourne and Sydney, which is now Canberra. It was named Canberra because it means "meeting place" in Aboriginal language.

Canberra has a bit of a stigma attached to it, due to so many politicans and govt workers residing there. There are actually quite alot of normal people who live there who love the place.

The climate, temperature-wise is similar to the UK. for example, it's the middle of winter in Aus at the moment. Canberra temps today are 7 - 10c. For a warmer climate go to Brisbane where today the temps are 10 - 22c.

There are many people who love it. It is not your normal City though. Its all very clean and "nice". A little of Milton Keynes maybe? Its all been street planned to be purfect.

The joke is that rush hour lasts at least 20 minutes . At the weekends the roads are strangely quite.

It has sex shop supermarkets, must be the government workers maybe.... LOL

There are lots of parks and walk ways and museums . I personally couldnt live there as its too cold for me LOL. But if you are in to snow skiing the mountains are only an hour or so away.

its very sunny and dry ( unlike the UK ) but a little bit remote for me (about 3 hours to Sydney ) . As i say many people love it. A guy at work swears by Canberra. He lives there and commutes to Sydney for work and goes back at the weekend.

Anyway after 2 years you can become a resident and move where ever you want !

Take it.

Canberra being the Nations Capital want's for nothing and the city design is straight off the drawing board.

Canberra is in the middle of the bush and yet it is our capital.

Climate wise it has it extremes from very cold in winter to very hot in summer.

Go on, give it a go, cause you'll never never know if you never never go.

Cheers.
