Bronte Beach in winter versus Blackpool in summer!
I cxan't believe how nice it's been at Bronte this week, in the first month of a typical Sydney winter. Sunny almost every day, 18 or 19 degrees maximum, people both swimming and sunbathing - not that I approve of sunbathing but at least it is probably safer than in the heat of a Sydney summer.
I did not get down there until after 4pm today, after the sun had disappeared from the beach, but the water was lovely, not the least bit FREEZING and probably even warmer than Cornwall in summer.
Kids were playing touch footie in the park too, some in shorts, others surfies with their wet suits peeled back to their waists.
Sure it can get cold at night, the homes could be better heated, and I heard there are fresh snowfalls in the Snowy Mountains, but it's still very pleasant here in Sydney. I had a coffee in one of the licensed cafes at Bronte after my swim and that too is a very pleasant aspect of life in Sydney - you can have a coffee or a beer/glass of wine AND the pubs do not all close at 11pm either!

Went out for a paddle in the kayak this arvo expecting to frrrrrrrrrrrreeze my nuts off but it was very pleasant. Lake Samsonvale/North pine dam water was still 19d and apparently it doesn't drop below 17, even in the depth of winter............seems I wasted my bucks on a wetsuit and dive boots

Watching SKY news from the UK overnight and it's a maximum of 19 degrees in the UK on Friday I think, not much different to Sydney!

I think that is just in London. In places further north it is much colder! No problem anyway, you only have to worry about it for another two months, then it's eight months of cold and wet versus eight months of warm and dry.

Andrew Moore, sitting in for Ray Hadley on 2GB today at 9am, gave the weather forecast for Sydney tomorrow and he said 'it's going to be a CHILLY 15 degrees!' To be fair, further out - Lithgow, Canberra, Bathurst, Orange, were all single digit maximums and I'm sure they are COLD overnight!
