Newcastle-Possible move there working as a nurse. Lifestyle/hospital info wanted
Hi all!
Im new to Poms in Oz and after some advice. I've got the chance to move to Williamtown with my partner. He will be based in Williamtown as a flight engineer, I am a nurse, mainly with experience in Cardiology/Coronary Care. Would be good to hear from nurses working in and around the Newcastle area.
Would also like some advice on nice areas to live.We are open minded as to where we will live, will mainly depend on where I get my job. But we are willing to commute up to 30 mins to work. So any advice on nice areas to live in around the Newcastle area would be good.
We are a young couple (25 and 26) with no children.
Thanks!

Hi Helen,
I hope you get some info soon. I'd also like to know! I'm a Cardiac Physiologist and my partner and I may be heading out later this year all going well, so keen to find out info as well. Good luck to you both!

Hi Helen, you've probably had a look around but I am a Nurse moving later this year all being well. Check out http://nswhealth.erecruit.com.au/Sea...=0&P=0&S=0&H=0 as this will give you the Hunter New England Health jobs. Also you should check out Seek.com.au as they have other jobs from other private firms as the private sector is much bigger that in the UK. There are several hospitals in and around Newcastle and Lake Mac. More jobs than in the UK for sure. I am looking into the AHPRA registration which i am led to believe takes around 8 weeks to sort out. They don't do the 12 hr shifts so much so it is back to the core 8 hour days over a 7 day roster. I prefer that tbh as I like to get to know how the patients are over a period of time. Most places seem easily within 30 mins provided you aren't in rush hour. I have gathered this from previous post on PIO. There are a few if you search for them. They will tell you which suburbs are best. Good luck and maybe see you later in the year!SX

Thanks Scozzie! Thats a great help, the seek.com site is very good. much more jobs than what I've found through the pubic hospital websites. Yeh I'm just completeing my APHRA registration at the moment. Don't know if you have heard much about APHRA but they can be a nightmare so apply early! Ive applied before 3 years ago and I was lucky in that there were no problems and I got my registration within about 7 weeks. But I have heard of lots of people having problems and it taking months. My advice would be to take the time to make sure EVERYTHING is with your application and completed exactly how they want it.then fingers crossed you won't have any problems! I do the 12 hour shifts at the moment but wouldn't mind going back to the 8 hour ones, especially if the sun is shining after work! ha ha
Good luck with your move!
