Hi Everyone
We are thinking of taking a short break, over the school holidays to see some snow. We live in Sydney and are quite happy to travel to the snowfields and spend a couple of nights there. We don't particularly want to ski, just have some fun in the snow with kids (15, 12 & 10). We are off to the Blue mountains this Sunday where we may find some anyway but all suggestions are welcome!
Hi
You have Selwyn which is 5.5 hours from Sydney Selwyn Snowfields - Your Winter Playground - Home
I really want to visit the ones here in Victoria, we have been here 4 years and I won't go because I have no idea about snow chains and I hate driving on those mountain roads in summer let alone winter
Not much snow around at the moment apparently although the Thredbo tourist mob are optimistic and say that there have been a load of bookings for the school holidays. It can be expensive down there in school holiday time. Thredbo, Perisher, Smiggins, Selwyn are all very popular. When my lads were little I used to take the day trip bus down to the snowfields from Canberra - just enough to whet their appetites and build a snowman then we were on our way back again but it is a couple of hours each way just for the day.
Have looked at the snow cam in Selwyn but there isn't much at the moment. I suppose it may pay us to wait until later in the season and 'do' a quick weekend when there will more of a chance that we will see real snow!
Location: Brisbane but heading back to Victoria 3 weeks to go!

I used to go to mt buffalo in victoria as its classed as the family mountain, more for fun not serious skiers.
Another is falls creek thats more commercialised and set up for good winter fun.
If you go to mt buffalo the best place to stay is in bright its a beautiful place year round. then you can just drive up the mountain for the day as it will only take half an hour. it will be cheaper than staying on the mountain.
