still in oz and loving it! it will be 2 years july 2012, both tracey and i have full times jobs just minutes from where we have bought our new home. both our girls are doing great with our eldest passing her driving test, going tafe and working saturdays. traceys parents came out and stayed for a month over xmas. now in saying all the good stuff its not without the usual family ups and downs but no regrets at giving oz a second chance so far.
When I saw your post come up on PIO spy, I decided to go back to the beginning of the thread to read the history. As I worked my way through, I thought today's post was about to say you were returning to the Uk for a second time! Lol! Glad to see this is not the case, and i'm glad it's all working out for you second time around.

hi, thanks for the post / question.
it was a mix of 2 main things, 1) we returned to our home town and it had gone downhill big time, crime & violence, intolerance, rudeness in shopping centres, over paced etc etc
      2) we both became very guilty of reading peoples stories on website forums like this one, highlighting peoples struggles and heartache trying to obtain visa's that we already had and took us 2 years to gain. we thought how can we sit in the UK as a family with 2 young girls and all the time holding potential golden tickets in our passports.

We missed the UK after our 1st 5 months in oz, and returned expecting to return to only the good things, our minds and logic overclouded by home sickness and sentimental memories.

all 4 of our lives (in my opinion) are now so greatly improved as is our standard of living. we are making some great friends both aussie's and poms alike. you still have to work at it and make an effort. i'm enjoying the challenge. :)

Your not alone in thinking this, 8 out 10 ex-pats think their lives have improved in Australia and that their kids have a better life there. Best of luck.

I was trying to think why I became unsettled and it was probably because I went back for the first time, in 1983 after nearly five years here, and had a great time. I was there for six months, had a good job and coming back to Sydney was difficult. I gradually settled back in again but I kept going back to England for holidays to see my parents. Then, I lost my job here and I went back for another long holiday which became a VERY long holiday - twelve years!

I made the decision to come back to Sydney (AGAIN) in 2008 after my parents passed away. I sometimes regret tossing in a good and secure job as it's been hard to find work here but on the other hand I have probably been the happiest I have even been in my life.

thanks for this post, I love honesty, and the tip of having a trip back before making the decision to go back is a great tip, which I will try and remember when / if we / I get to that stage

I'm glad all is going well :)

And well done for having the courage to make all of your decisions ;)

Does anyone have a spare instruction manual for a baby girl?
