Jaynie, There should be more people like us in Customer Services as yes there are lots of people in the wrong job, I suppose they just want A job !
MattCath, It is very difficult when interviewing to know the person totally !! I can tell you I have interviewed some people and taken them on and within weeks you have a different character, it takes time for some people to show their true colours. If I were you I would complain to the company about the way you were treated, if they company do not know then they cannot deal with the person concerned. Also once someone has been with a company for a period of time it is not that easy to get rid of them, therefore the more letters they get complaining abt this person helps them build their case. Oh and I really laughed once as I took on this young lad, really polite at his interview and the day he started he walked in with this bounce think the staff called it 'bowling' , I laughed my head of when I see this walk as he defiantely did not walk into his interview like that
You are soooooo right!!!! And I can understand every word and all your feelings!!!
Makes me feel happy to know that other people move back for the same reasons!!!
We have been living in Australia since December 2006 (one year in Brisbane and now in Melbourne). We are moving back to the UK in January 2009 and are looking forward to it - and for exactly the same reasons you metioned!!!

You are very right. I do have an update though. I took those dreaded two left feet flip flops back to River Island in Bristol and told them I had bought them in the Bullring in Birmingham and they could not have been nicer. They replaced them straight away and the manageress got straight on the phone in front of me to make a complaint about the member of staff (apparently it had her name on the receipt!) Now I actually feel quite bad because despite my ranting I would not want her to lose her job but a spot of retraining I think would be in order.
As for people changiing I know what you mean. We take on a lot of university graduates at work in the admin department as casuals just to give them some work experience and it is so funny, they pass the interview because they are uber brainy but when they actually start work they have not got a clue! thick as s**t springs to mind, no life skills. Ah well us "University of Life" people soon put them straight.

Many years ago, Mr Tyke and I went up to the Yorkshire Dales for the day. We found a little cafe in the middle of nowhere and Mr Tyke went to the counter and asked for a couple of teas and a sticky bun.
A Stern Waitress behind the counter said "You can't order here, this counter's closed. You'll have to go to the other counter to get served." (gesturing over her shoulder).
He duly walked to the other side of the counter, which was right behind the Stern Waitress. She turned around to face Mr Tyke and as if she had never seen him before, smiled brightly and said "Good afternoon, Sir, what can I get you?"
Priceless...
Mrs Tyke xx

I have just started my journey to Oz and have read with interest some (not all) the comments and reasons for returning to Britain. I have to admit those would be the reasons that i would have for returning. Britain is a very, very beautiful country with its green and plentiful countryside, its history and traditions etc, etc. The reason for leaving Britain is the machine is is not working and is unlikely too.
My Children have no opportunity here, they will never own there own home, have to watch there back all the time incase of being attacked by other gangs of drucken youths, My two eldest boys have both been attacked, mugged, beaten up and chased of the streets. I don't live in the inner cities either just a small normal town.
Britain is beautiful but broken!
Now can anyone tell me that Australia is any different, and in contrast to this thread what are the points for not returning to Britain and living your days out in Australia.
Roger, Aus also has youths with too much time on their hands and access to alcohol - unfortunately they all too often have access to cars aswell.
With the price of education over here too - you will have to seriously support them if you want them to go to uni (or even just finish High School) - some kids have to take on part time jobs and pay their school fees themselves!!!
And as for being able to afford their first home - what on earth do you think they would be able to afford over here? House prices are extortionate!

I find a lot of the Australian youths are very aggresive after a few cans of cheap lager...and why don't the police catch the drunken boy racers that seem to be all over the place.
We're going to Blighty mainly for family reasons, plus better paid work for my husband. Pay is rubbish over here. I love Australia, it has many fine aspects, but it's not home.
I am sure we shall be returning for holidays to see family.

Coming from a hugh close knit family I cant get over the fact my daughter won't be part of it.I really think family is the most precious gift you could give a child. Before I came I convinced myself that Skype and MSN would allow that bond to take place, living the reality is very different and I don't want my daughter growing up not really knowing/loving her family.
There are things about Brisbane that I am disappointed with... I find it really strange that I live in a housing estate but NEVER see kids out playing.I have a park 2 mins from where I live and I have never seen another mum there...I find this Bizarr...granted at the weekends the beaches /parks are packed but during the week is a non event and for a stay at home mum it can send you a little
It scares me how much money you need for doctors/dentists....my little one has had many bouts of sickness since she arrived and we are lucky to be in the position to pay for any prescription we are given I often wonder how people cope when they have no savings.
Intrest rates and bank charges are hugh over here...our mortgage is 9% at the moment...you pay for a bank account ....to use your debit card...to take money out of non bank Atms ...annual fee on credit cards...really is stepping back in time...I feel that we pay way too much for nothing.
The "laid back " attitude doesn't always work in our favour...we are building a house and are a year behind schedule... nobody cares about this..there attitude is "whatever"...and I have found that this attitude in customer service is brisbane wide.
My husband hates his job...he works longer hours for less money and it wasn;t the job he was told it was going be.
I could go on about the supermarkets ,shopping ,crap TV etc but Im sure everyone has heard them before.
But the main reason Im moving back is because I love Scotland...and being here has just confirmed this. The same problems are here as in the Uk, just some people prefere one country to another.
Never once have I thought as a Uk citizen I was privileged for having free healthcare,Income subsidised by WFT credits, free prescriptions for children ,free dental care for children,Maternity payments and free dental care while pregnant /child is 1 year... now I see all this in a different light and I really feel privileged to be living in the uk
I also cant wait to have seasons ... christmas time when its cold, appreciating the few hot days in summer ...instead of ground hog day brisbane when its sunny and warm or raining and warm
We have travelled all around Brisbane and seen some of NSW but Its time for us to go home....leaving in Oct even if the house isn,t finished /sold....looking forward to giving my little girl the christmas she deserves.
I understand most of what you are saying but The Working Family Tax credits are horrendouse they gave me £4000 over 3 years and now reckon that I owe them £11000 eh! can't get anyone to talk to about it I have rung and I have written to no avail!!! Free dental care for children is here but we will soon have to pay for braces. we have no seasons anymore it is just as likely to be warm and wet at Christmas as it is in the summer we have had persistant rain for the whole year, no snow and we have just had two days of sunshine and everyone has gone mad. Back to rain today though!

My point about WFT credits is that its available...sure individual cases go wrong....but as Uk citizens its a privelage and I can now see that.
Well if paying for braces comes in the UK it will be on a par with OZ ...but you still get free dental treatment for children/pregnant and new mothers....again something I never really gave the government in the Uk credit for.
As regards weather I have been away for two years so I could be wrong But in Scotland it is never warm at christmas and my sister sent me a video of my niece building a snowman in January so there has been some.I can understand that when your about to move its easier to forget the good points about the UK ...but in my opinion Oz is no better and I know where I want to be.
