It's always a risk
TBH I've moved around a lot (within the UK and to various other countries) and I learnt long ago that to try and go "back" never works - the times you remember fondly are just that, the times, and they aren't just about where you were living but the people who were in your life; and something in that combination will always be different.
It also depends on the bits you did or didn't like about the place you're considering going back to. Economic or social issues (like not having enough money or being worried about crime) are more within your control, physical or systemic issues (like liking/disliking the weather, landscape or culture) are not.

No offence, you seem really nice, but I reckon you need to get off PIO & MBTTUK in particular for a couple of weeks & get out & enjoy Perth. Try to find a new hobby or something new to enjoy. Constantly talking about not feeling settled & missing the UK will not help you settle in.
As I said, no offence meant at all.

Its funny but I do think that happens, when we are heading over there I am excited etc and then when we are there its reality and I cannot wait to get back here.

What's the song called, 'once you go black you never go back' maybe that could apply to most things in life also?

After 6 years in OZ we are going back to UK. No rose tinted glasses for us. UK has it's problems, OZ has it's problems. Lots i like about the UK and Lots i like about OZ. Our kids will be loved and healthy where ever we are.
Being with our families in the UK is ultimately what we want.

No offence taken, I know what you are saying, I do try & enjoy things here...Meet ups with friends, day trips with my Family & walks in the lovely warm evenings....
But I still cant seem to stop myself dreaming of 'home'

I've lived in the UK, Germany (5.5 years) and Australia (2.5 years) and for me personally the UK has much more to offer than anywhere else on the planet......however its took a move to Australia to me to realise that!

On the flip side ~ mayby I saw the grass as greener & was wearing my rose tints when thinking of the move here...
For example, so far I have seen & heard of far more crime here than I ever did where I lived in the UK
Just a couple of things that have happened to us personally:
Eldest Sons car broken into! (cost approx $500 to replace items stolen)
Youngest Sons scooter stolen from outside door at front of house! (Cost approx £150 in Uk)

I know exactly how you feel. I felt it times when I was in Ireland. I hope you are able to find something that you enjoy. I think sometimes, the more research you do into the move & the more time you spend preparing for it ends up piling more pressure on you once you get here. Relax & enjoy it. It doesn't have to be perfect & it certainly doesn't have to be forever. You don't have to love it but you have to give yourself a chance to settle & be happy at your own pace.
