Homesick....because of music!!
A local music festival is on this weekend and some of the musicians are having a practice session next door.........they are an Irish band who actually played in our pub back home a few times.......small flippin' world!! The music is mighty, really lively irish trad music........the only thing is I have just been hit with a sudden wave of homesickness.
At least I have a great weekend of music ahead of me to cheer me up.
First real feelings of homesickness since we moved nearly three years ago,not doing too bad I suppose.

I thought you were heading home soon ff?

Maybe coming here is a bit like giving up smoking - you think you have FINALLY severed all the threads of desire, then you pass one bloke smoking, and instead of your usual revulsion, you WANT A CIGARETTE!

bless ya - its all about music and memories - its amazing how our senses are linked to our brains and memories. irish music is the best though!!!

'Oh, you're drunk, you're drunk, you silly old fool, as drunk as drunk can be, the pipe is just a tin whistle that my mother sent to me.'
Something like that anyway.
They did my favourite version of 'And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda' too.
Just don't ruin our mutual music appreciaton society by telling me that you're going to see Daniel O'Donnell!

Still (slightly) tipsy, I can confess to liking 'All Kinds Of Everything' by Dana.
And whilst I did not normally go for The Batchelors' I did like The Barron Nights' spoof, probably on 'Pop Go The Workers?'
'I don't want to go to work, on me bike in the rain.'

Yes ,heading back the last week in Feb so not long to go now.Meeting up with the lads yesterday, talking about the craic we used to have etc...made me a bit nostalgic I suppose.First time I have sat down to listen to live irish music since we landed too,so that combination brought on a bit of homesickness.Irish music runs in my veins and it is one of the things I have missed.
Back to normal today, counting the days again now.

Hey, it sounds like your 'days' purse still has plenty of weight in it, but take it from me, don't wish them away, because there will (soon) come a time when you will have to hold that purse down!
'Horslips!' That was the Irish band I was trying to think of last night. Damn the lack of sound on my computer

My family are all irish (dublin) and my Mum has lived in England since she was 21 - she still calls Dublin home and just came back from a visit last week sounding more dublin than ever and playing Ronnie Drew and Dickie Rock full blast.
Even though she is 75 she can still have the craic in Dublin with all her old friends. She looked ten years younger. Now I am thinking she should think about going home herself for her last years and enjoy her irishness - good luck.
