using oz debit card to pay off UK debt

This may be an obvious question but am going to ask anyway.

When i was in the UK i did not pay my credit cards by direct debit but by making a payment from my debit card. Is there any reason why I cannot do the same with my oz debit card?? this will save me having to estimate the amount to transfer ( i am paying them off totally and they give me the option of paying the whole balance) and I will then only have to pay the currency conversion rate.

Does anyone forsee any huge problem in doing this??

I regularly pay my girlfriends phone bill for her via my australian visa debit card,I use the ANZ bank internet banking site but whatever bank you are with should have a similar facility.
The ANZ site does the conversion for me-I just make sure that I transfer enough money to the card account to cover the amount that I need to pay.

thanks nigel - I did not think it would be a problem as I did this is the UK but seemed a little too good to be true as it would mean less charges!!!

It is my only account so should be OK - the money is already there.
