Hi Emma, we are looking to move to Sydney soon and have the same requirement. Did you have any luck in tracking something down? I note per the attached Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457), that employers, sponsoring a 457 applicant, are responsible to 'pay all medical or hospital expenses for an employee (and accompanying family member/s) for treatment in a public hospital (other than expenses that are met by health insurance or reciprocal health care arrangements)'.

Does your firm require specific standards of private health care, or would you be able to go for the minimum? This might be a false economy, so thoughts from anyone else that has been through the same would be appreciated.

I made a few enquires with from a list available on the western australia website and have received some info from a company ( web attched hopefully). I have no idea what the best option is! I wear glasses so I am going to need something with opticians and definately a dentist! but I haven't had chance to study it in detail as I am a student nurse and on full time placement at the moment. have a look at the web and you might get a few ideas.

Interesting and just to enlighten you, whilst St John ambulance WA sponsers under the 457 Visa, they refuse to pay healthcare cover. The response from the government is....Take a civil action against them...! Bottom line is it would appear it means zilch!

ASked diac about it for a nurse coming over on a 457 and there reponse was that if its in your contract you need it, get out clause really because if you dont have it you are not fulfilling your contract , so they can give you the heave ho

If you need glasses stock up in the uk , because the optical grant is about much use as the social grant in the uk , you can claim for general dental and that is a low pay back . On a 457 the premiums are steep .mates of ours were payin $300 + on a 457 canceeled it when they got pr went in for HI same cover $120 (need it because of medicare levy when pr
