cost of living & moving to Sydney
Hi All,
I am new the forum scene - I am 22 and moving to Sydney to follow my career prospects with my current employer... I have just been made an offer of TPV A$75,000 - before i accept the offer I need to be sure I can support myself. I am looking to move into the Manly area.
I will be moving by myself and have seen a lot communication and been told that Sydney is a very expensive place to live.
Can anyone offer a realistic view of living costs/deductions
Things I have included so far
Rent
Food
Travel
Utilities
Phone & Internet
Gym
Entertainment
Travel home to UK twice a year
Clothes
Savings
I am worried about this whole expirience but want to do it so badly!
any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Alex

Sydney is expensive, if you look on realestate.com.au the site will give you an idea of the rents. Gym depends what you want, different fees. Does the wage include super or is it plus super, if it includes super then you will have less money to spend.
It really depends on individuals whether they are party animals and go out all the time or prepared to stay in watch the tele and go for a walk etc. Two trips to UK a year is going to set you back a bit as air fares from Aus to UK are more expensive than the other way round.
Sharing accommodation is probably a good idea.
Hope someone pops along with more information.

I don't know what TPV means, but $77k seems like a salary a 22 year old can get along with. I seemed to survive on less when I was younger than I could these days, shared accommodation etc. Two trips back to the UK each year is an ambitious goal, you would be spending a lot of your savings on flights and also bear in mind that annual leave entitlements in Australia are usually around 20 days, so do you want to use your entire leave on trips ack to the UK. Why not explore this beautiful country.

You are probably looking at $400 per week to rent a one bedroom flat, maybe $200 a week for a room in a share flat/house. $1,000 a week take home from a gross of $75,000? Two trips a year back to England does sound excessive. Take a month in the northern summer or the same period over Xmas/New Year, depending upon your firm's leave arrangements.
