Your absolutely right, its up to the individual to make it work, some people are deluded into thinking Australia is the answer to all there financial woes and it isnt. However the rewards are greater there as i have seen the proof. Also there is no class sysyem there which makes things run easier. Enjoy the sunshine.

This is our main reason for emigrating, the kids future, it's grim here in the UK and is set to stay like that for years.

Then I would be looking at alternative income streams and passive incomes. If you think that you will work till you drop then you probably will. Why do you need a very large mortgage?

Or lower that mortage expectation. Is that a goal? Is your target to gain a $800k mortgage and work till you drop? There are alternatives!

50-60 hrs are the norm here too. Longer if ya want it.
I suspect that your projecting is as a result of your own misunderstanding of Oz before you arrived and the shock at it when ya did. We arent all like that.

Because that is what houses cost in decent parts of Sydney and I don't plan on living in an area that is not decent.

The reason we are going is work. No work over here, no future for the kids , and with me having the oppertunity to work in perth we have nothing to loose.
Best to try it, then regret it. Going beginning of august
