Slight Lung Scar and Lung Blunting- x-ray problem

It seems that the waiting is not the only heartache that comes with visa application. I got a call from the panel doctor today who told me that they found a scar in my lung (possibly old) and blunting of the lung...The DIAC asked him to send them the results in digital and non-digital formats so they can do their own analysis.

What this mean? What to expect now? I'm so scared not only because of the visa that might not be granted on this basis and more medicals that I may need to do...but also it is the first time that I've ever cared about my health and worrying about what may happen!

Anyone got a similar experience or working knowledge? Can you please help.

Thanks

Hi... The scarring on the lungs could be anything. It does not have to be a serious issue. The worry that Australia have is that you could possibly have had TB before (although not necessarily true) and therefore the xrays need to analyzed further. If it is nothing, they will just ignore it and move on further.

My mom had the same problem went she did her meds. She was 70 years old and they found slight scarring on the lungs and her heart was a little enlarged. We took her to our local doc and he said there was absolutely nothing wrong with her lungs (No TB) and her heart was perfect but looked a little enlarged because of her age. We had to do some sputum tests and xrays which took awhile but were negative and got a report from the chest specialist. We also did an ECG and Echo just to show that everything was well with her heart and the Cardiologist wrote up a report.

We too stressed at the time  but in the end everything was fine and she got her visa. So take it easy, it could just be nothing !

I had my medical in 2004 , a couple of days later I had a direct call from the panel dr telling me there was a dark shadow on my lower left lung which they were worried could be cancer!!!, my diaphram wasn't working ,the bottom part of my lung had died off and some main nerve from my lung didnt work anymore ,he told me he had forwarded xrays direct to my GP and for me to see him straight away,

My self, wife and family were worried sick I went straight to see dr, he talked me through xray and confirmed the previous dr's worries and was wondering why I weren't coughing up all kinds in his surgery, and seemed amazed I had no symptoms, even tho I am a large build!!! he advised me to go private to be seen immediatley.

Cut a very long story short,

I had a CT scan 3 days later then an appointment with top lung specialist (friend in the right places)

The scan ruled out cancer which both dr's had petrified me about, but the scan did confirm all of the other finds, they say I have an un developed lung from birth, which is why my diaphram doesn't work and the other nerve thing doesn't work!!!!

After that sort of good news, my main worry was passing my medical,

I had to ask the lung specialist to write a report to my case officer, luckily the specialist had dealt with migration medicals a lot and once he was happy that my condition was not affecting me and that I had lived 31 years with it he wrote to my case officer and told them what they wanted to hear, and I had my visa within a few weeks.

It was the most worrying few weeks ever, a lot of the guys on here were very supportive and very resourcefull, Luckily for me it wasn't a serious condition, and hopefully yours will be the same,

Good luck and try not to worry too much

(and I said I was going to keep it short!!!)

Neil

My medical came up as calcified granulomer (scarring) to right lung. It went on to say possibly caused by previous TB, (I've never had it as far as I know). Anyway agent said they may want more tests but visa granted a week later - no questions asked. Good luck!

Thank you for all your supportive replies.

I never had TB as far as I know.

I'm justing waiting for a copy of the x-ray so I can discuss it with my GP and see what he says.

HI,

Please try not to worry. I had my medical in Manchester and they found a small nodule (??) on my lung. THey referred me to the hospitol where I had another (and i must say...far better xray). It turned out to be nothing at all and the medical although referred when it got to Sydney, was passed within a month of going to Australia.

Yes it was a pain but I was just relieved that it was nothing, as I'm sure yours is.

Also as a poster above wrote, when I phoned the health place in Australia they said that TB was the main thing they looked for in the lungs.

I do think it was a little bit overkill by the medics in Manchester but hey ho, in the end it was just a delay.

Best of luck.

Hi all,

Am dreading the chest X-ray, i have suffered from spontaneous pneumothorax in the past so know I have scarring on my lung. However have had an op so all is now well, was wondering if I will be able to pass the medical, anyone had something similar?

Any advice?

I had scarring on my lung, probably from a chest infection and nothing nasty. They case officer said as the x ray is not perfect their procedure is to send x rays to Australia for analysis regardless of the cause which delays things a little bit more.

i was quite worried but i still got the temp visa approved in 6 weeks from when i submitted the application so fingers crossed that it wont affect yoru application and will just take a few weeks longer. As others have said, i think they are mainly looking for TB or something serious.

Fed Up:hug:Naturally this is of concern to you , but I certainly wouldnt panic at all.... One piece of advice I would like to give is if you feel this is spiralling out of control, may I suggest that either you or your partner (in Adelaide) contact George Lombard who is in NSW.Welcome to Austimmigration | George Lombard Consultancy Pty. Ltd..

George is a Migration Agent who is well respected on PIO who also has a Dr. on board for cases such as yourself.

This would be the avenue I would take.

You will get there Fed up and the next thing will be you will be asking Cerebus to change your name to "Over The Moon" xx

Thank you for your pm the other day I will reply to it this evening. Susie x

Hi Tina,

If you can get your doc to write a report on this, it will help them to understand the situation better. Don't worry.. all will be well..

Ozzieland,

Yes good idea, might be the way forward, it is a fairly rare condition so the doctors may not know too much about it.

Thanks for advice.
