Renewing 676 visitors visa in Auckland

      Hi Folks,

We are in Oz with our children and their families waiting for a decision on our 143 CPV visa application. We need to leave Oz to renew our 676 tourist visa for another 12 months and have decided to go to Auckland to carry this out.
I guess a good few of you will have done this before so would welcome advice and comments about what to do/not to do, how long it takes, any bad experiences etc.

      Cheers TinaL

Immi office told me that I had to leave Ausse before sept 2010 as my 12 months holiday visa expires in Nov 2010, and if i went out to NZ & came back to ausse, I would be entitled to another 12 months holday visa; I am sure someone on pio will correct this if it is wrong

      Hi Tina,
If I were you I would e-mail the embassy there to check that you will be okay to do this (can't see why not if your 676 is still good but it never hurts to check!) and whether there is anything that you will particularly need to do or bring with you.

      Best of luck

I emailed immi re returning on a e-visitor for further travelling. I got a very vague reply not actually answering my question.

There was the following quote at the end of the email:

Note: The information in this email and attachments is provided for general information and is a guide only. It should not be relied on as complete or accurate or an indication of whether you can apply, or be granted, a visa.

Are you getting a second 676 visa or just taking a trip offshore to get more time on an existing one? If you already have an application in for a substantive visa, such as the CPV, then I would have thought it was worth checking with them before you book flights. At the very least you need to let them know where you will be should they need to contact you for any reason.

      Hi Happy Lass & Mark&Robyn,

Emailed Immi in Auckland got the reply which said we do not normally reply and then got a checklist which said fill in form 48R, this disagrees with the main DIAC website which said form 48.
Asked which one to fill in and got the same checklist back without comment. We have therefore filled in both forms and will use whichever on the day as things happen.

What I would like is for someone who has made the trip to Auckland to get a second 12 month tourist visa whilst waiting for their 143 CPC to be approved to say something like "do this, don't do that and our experience was this".

Perhaps all those who have done it no longer look at PIO because I can't believe no one has done this before, the general advice on PIO has been to go to Auckland, Bali or Singapore to get a second 676 tourist visa.

Confused but happy in Oz TinaL

      Hi Tina,
As your CPV is already in and waiting for approval I would have thought you'd face very little in the way of hassle. The CPV is outside of my experience but as far as going to the embassy in Auckland goes there is little to tell because it was quite straight-forward and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

The embassy is on the waterfront and surprisingly easy to find. You can get to it on foot and there is a nice coffee shop on the ground floor. We had made an appointment but there were others who had come without one and were seen.

Don'ts are.. none that I can think of. Hopefully someone who has done exactly what you are about to do will come along.
Best of luck for a smooth and hassle-free trip

      Hi Happy Lass,

We are now back in Oz after taking the trip and you were quite right, it was a non-event.
We turned up at the imigration at 9am on the Monday, we were asked for the following to support our second 12 month visa:
      Form48R
      Evidence of support (funds)
Where are we staying (with daughter and supporting letter)
Where do you live in the UK (mortgage & council tax evidence)
      CPV application acceptance from DIAC

O/K come back in an hour and we will have your visa ready.
We didn't believe it but sure enough that's what happened, we had been so worried that everything was about to go wrong we had a party.
So anyone following get all the paper together and make the decision easy, that's what we were told when we asked why such a quick decision.

      Hope this helps TinaL

Tina, that's lovely news I hope the CPV turns out to be just as smooth.
All the best for the future
