LOST IN THE QUEUE by Peter Mares

Hi all, this is a newspaper article that appeared in The Age, on 18th December, a Melbourne Newspaper.
Sorry for the delay but I have been waiting to see if The Age would put it up on their website.

As they have not Peter very kindly scanned it and emailed it to me, I have put it together and turned it into a pdf.
Another great article by Peter Mares I think you will agree, the man is getting us some great press coverage and our thanks go out to him.

Its great to see so many Visa grants this week, long may it continue.

Hi Floater

It is really helpful that you have published this article today. I have been trying to offer the onshore Students ideas about who they can contact to try to get a "liaison officer" appointed by DIAC to their specific cause. I've suggested that getting Peter Mares to take an interest might be a good idea as well, so they can now see how well Mr Mares writes.

Cheers

Gill

The point is lots of fun and stress. If your life is boring and nothing excites you any more that go for Aus migration.

Guess what? Am having fun since Dec 2007. Here is my timeline (without the intention of hijacking this thread):
Dec 2007 - IELTS (Band 7)
Apr 2008 - IEA assessed my skills as Computer Engg (ASCO is Building and Construction nec)
May 2008 - 175 visa lodged - not on MODL nor on CSL (CSL didnt exist back then)
May 2009 - ACS approved skills assesment - on MODL and CSL but nominated occ is different than the one stated in visa app.
Oct 2009 - VIC rejected state sponsorship request lodged in June 2009.
<maybe 2013> - 175 Visa!
PS: Luckily working on 457 work permit in the lucky country since 2005!

Hi Floater,

I hope you had a good Xmas and pleasant NY? Many thanks for taking the time to post the article. It does not really bode well for a great many people. I'm thinking of going to the expo in N.London at the end of Jan to see just how rosy a picture the various ehibitors put on migration to Aus.
After the chat with Peter Wilden, although initially there was an upbeat mood about the meeting, I seem to feel that nothing has really changed since the 23rd Sept announcement with the exception of the issue for the 3500 applicants where meds and police checks were requested.
In addition to your comments I recieved the box standard letter from this morning about Ministerial directive 42 etc... Hopefully I may have some news soon, good or bad...It has got to the point where I'll have to draw a line in the sand. And think of something else. There is only so much time and money you can invest.
I probably will go on the 30th and I'll post my thoughts on a thread.
Anyway hope you hear some good news soon.

Kind regards

Ronnie

Oh that is a gr8 invention. Special thanx for putting up this issue again on "THE AGE".
Well this story looks to me as if I am also one of them. This is not only the story Raghavan- Raman and Li Xiru , but thousands of applicants like me who are lost in the queues. Even DIAC has also lost in the queue......
Let us hope for the best.

Ronnie,
Don't go to much down. Indeed, now they grant visas for all Cat5 applicants where meds were done (with no regard requested or not) and where CO marks a case as decision ready (no additional external checks and etc.).
As far as I know your meds are done so you have real chances catch this train.

Hi McKlaut,

Sorry if I sounded down, that was certainly not the intention. As you quite rightly stated, I may be coming to the end of the process. My anger/disappointment lies where a lot of applicants like yourself have been treated in such a shabby way.
Prior to joining this forum, I will be the first to admit, it was a 'dog eat dog' mentality and to try and get ahead with this process. But in the short space of time I have conversed with fellow applicants on hear as well as being privileged enough to meet up with a few (30th November), it makes you feel that it is almost criminal the way that this process treats real people.
One thing I would be interested to know, is if my son's medical is sucessful, then there is no real hurdle to being issued the visa. I currently have a 176 & a 475 application running in tandem, if I were to accept the 176, then I would be duty bound to notify DIAC of my withdrawal of the 475, does this mean that it would free up the 475 visa for another application????
As I mentioned I'll keep you all posted of my progress, and after chatting with Gill & watney, floater etc.. I am certainly inclined to carry on helping others as much as I can on this great forum.
Kind regards

Ronnie R

Chin up Ronnie, having met you and knowing what a cracking bloke you are I know you will get there.
I agree with your sentiment that having been through this mess means I plan to continue to help and campain for all the people in this mess of an Imigration programme. If the chance to be included in another article like this one came up I would take it in a heartbeat.
Think positive waves people.
Look at the time they quoted before they started Cat 5, now its roaring along!
The Minister is clearly incompetent, he's proved this by the way he has continually messed about with something that was best left to people who knew what they were doing.
Luckily there's an election on the way and Polititians come and go!
(Finger crossed here too - are you listening Gordon?)
