Travel to Uk.. please give advice
Hi
I travelled to the UK in Aug 09 and spent almost 6 weeks there. At immigration I was given a 6 month Tourist Visa.
I left 6 weeks after as I had my plane ticket booked back to OZ.
The Visa expires on Feb 18th 2010.
My question is....
Can I hop on a plane and head back to the UK in early March 2010 for a 3/4 week visit? Without having to worry if they will issue me with a Tourist Visa?
From what I understand you can spend upto 6 months within a year in UK. So I haven't done that. I have been twice in my life and left always when my Plane ticket said I was going to.
Cheers

Hawker, if I remember correctly , my husband's (Australian) passport wasnt stamped when he left the country. He obtained a Marriage Visa from the British Embassy in Canberra for entry purposes into the UK.
Luckily for you Australian passports are stamped on entry into Oz, so you can prove you left on time etc. etc. I think the Uk powers that be are interested to make sure you will not be working in the Uk, your visit is to visit your girlfriend, you wont be a burden on the system (same as the Australian requirements). I would take papers with you to show you have a business (does my memory serve me well??) in Oz, house etc. and a return ticket.
Have a great trip

Hi, before i moved to Australia my step daughter would come and visit me reguarly and never had a problem, she just turned up at UK immigration, answered the routine questions and was allowed in, she had her return ticket to show when she was leaving. But if you have concerns why not ring the British Consulate and ask them how you stand on re-entering within this time period.

Australians do not need a visa for entry into the UK for up to 6 months in 12 as a visitor unless special conditions apply.
Visitors (INF2)
Many countries do have an arrangement of granting a visa on arrival as a formality of maintaining the legality or whatever and even for Australians/New Zealanders with reciprocal residency rights, there is still a visa applying even though most never get to hear of it.
The UK will know exactly when you came and left just as most countries do now via scanning of passports and stamps are kind of old hat and not always used though could be on arrival just so if you're pulled up by the police in a country they'll know whether you're legal or not [if you have your passport on you!].
So you ought to be fine in going over to travel back with the girl.
