Has anyone out there gone down the AIM route? In particular Engineering Manager 1221-11?

In my last job ( company went into admin in Aug ) I was the next in command ( so to speak ) after the 2 Directors. The company wasn't big, and this is what concerns me, as AIM are looking for Senior Managers from `big` companies employing hundreds of people. Our firm only had around 25 employees.

I don't have a degree ( just a HND ) but was classed as a Senior Manager within the company.

If anyone has any experiences with AIM and what they expect or check, then please let me know.

Hi, I made the assessment process with them in July/August.

I had absolutely no problem with them; our company has also only 32 employees, but I am one of the managing directors here. We are the hungarian subsidiary company of a big german company group in Europe, the whole group has over 4000 employees. I have bachelor degree though.

I think you want your occupation assessed through AIM and not through Engineers Australia because of the missing degree, or?

Thanks but I'd say that as you are MD and the company is subsiduary of 4000 people then that would have helped you? Yes, I was hoping that the AIM route would be easier and less expensive too ( now that I'm on the crappy dole until I can find another job!! ) as well as the fact that they look at work experience as much as quals. I've run the factory since Nov 99 so I've got the `years` they require just very worried about the lack of people under me, etc. Do you know what they actually check - do they confirm everything with the 2 refs? Do they write to each of the companies? That could be difficult if they do.

Hi Plato

In your shoes I would phone AIM and ask to speak with one of the Assessors who knows about what they want from Engineering Managers. They don't bite and nobody likes to fail a volunteer. It is not intended to be a cat & mouse game between you and AIM.

Your only concern seems to be the size of the company that you worked for. Then again it was a very specialised business. Are there lots of (any?) huge companies in your particular field?

Also, have you tried applying to Aussie companies for jobs? It is worth a go. You might get lucky.

Cheers

Gill

Hi Gill,

Have just emailed AIM so will wait to hear from them ( could be upto 7 working days ). Our competitors are all similar in size except for 2 maybe. Yes, I have emailed a few companies in Aus that do what I did but no reply from any of them. I think I might be chasing them up soon!

The AIM have just come back to me with what I take to be a no - the company must have at least 600 employees otherwise they won't consider me. Its slipping away. Damn.
