      advice for state sponsorship?

      Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any advice on what to include in the statement for state sponsorship? I know you need to demonstrate your skills and explain why you want to live there and what you can offer, is there anything else we should add? Or should talk about? Any advice greatly appreciated as always!

      Thanks everyone

We did ours under the following headings:

Background information about ourselves and our family
What you know about the State your applying to (show you have researched it)
What's unique about this state compared to the other states
      Education Opportunities
      Employment Opportunities
      Culture
      Lifestyle

It worked for us anyway - got approval from ACT.

      Best of Luck

My o/h is a plumber, it is for the NSW off list state sponsorship where there is 500 places for any occupation on the SOL. Its recent and our agent said its pretty difficult one! But you never know if you don't try!

      Thanks

      Hi shreen

We did WA sponsorship online and it asked us specific questions on the form. WA application wouldnt let you save as you went along so i did a dummy application and jotted down all the questions they asked, i took it right up until the check over the app and pay section and then just clicked cancel.

We were only allowed 1000 characters to answer questions like why do you want to live here? can you support yourself and dependants once arrived in Aus? are there jobs available for your specified skill. And many more. The dummy run application i did allowed me to compose answers off line. we were also allowed to up load 5 docs, one had to be acadamic certficate i.e degree if you have one and Skills assessment. I included a full breakdown of costs for living on arrival and for our relocation. Oh yeah they asked for estimated cost of relocation and where you would get the funds from and also estimated cost of living when in Aus. Aim to state you will take with you around $25k, that seems to be the average cost required for most states.

We did an offlist nomination aswell and got one of the states 500 places. Again we were told by agents its a 50/50 chance and they werent very supportive (we decided to do it on our own). I phoned up the WA contact in London (found on WA immigration website) and she was great and advised me to call her when we finished the application so that she could chase it for us directly in WA. I think this helped as we heard within 4weeks and we were told it would take 10weeks. If you can find a london NSW contact drop them a line.

Hope NSW application is the same as WA, if it isnt this post is useless!! ;o) but im sure they will ask the same sort of questions.

      Best of luck

      Hi Shreen
Dont know about NSW but for VIC they wanted to know a bit about how you were going to support yourself - we found it useful to stress that the cash we were bringing was not dependent on the sale of a house.
175 app sent 2nd Oct (no agent), applied for Vic State Sonsorship 8th Jan, State Sposorship granted 1st March, case officer appointed 30th March. Meds and police checks lodged 28th April. Visa granted 2nd July 2009. In Melbourne since 5th November.

Thanks so much for this Its really helpful. The NSW you can't apply online, its by post! Our agent is being ok but would rather we did not go for off list. You have given me hope though thanks so much, i'll let you know how we got on.
      Best,

ooh Sheen forgot to say.... before i did any of the above the lady at the place in london told me to send my CV over to her so that she could pass it on to the immigration centre in WA to see if they would even consider me for sponsorship prior to my application. They looked over my CV and said that yes it was me worth doing a state sponsorship visa as with my skill set they would consider me for an offlist nomination. May be you could call the NSW immigration centre in NSW (or a london contact) first, have a nice chat and see if they would be prepared to take a look at your CV before doing anything? Could save you time and money you would pay the agent.
