Question no idea where to start!

I'm 28 and my daughter is 10.. I have been thinking of emigrating to Australia for a couple of years after discussing it with my partner but we never did anything about it, we have recently separated and I think now is a good a time as any to get the ball rolling, I have looked through the immi.gov.au website but I guess you have to know what you're looking for to find it.

I am willing to retrain and apply for a skilled entrance visa if I have to.

      Any advise greatly appreciated.

You first need to identify your occupation which is listed in SOl.
You may want to hire an agent if you don't know where to start.

      Hi and Welcome to PIO..

I would firstly try and contact a migration agent, these guys will give you the best advice regarding which path to take.

Have a look in this link, there is a list of agents which most ppl on PIO can recommend.

Most of them will give you a free assessment of your options and chances.

Sorry hsuehhan, I have no idea what SOI is.

Thank you Yorkshire Clan, I did see a few adverts for agents when I googled for info but wasn't sure whether I needed to use one.

I really am not as stupid as this post is making me sound! lol.. This is just all new to me and there are so many websites it's quite confusing knowing where to start.

Hiya and welcome to PIO, you sound like me 3 years ago, lol, i thik i read that much it all mashed together ,lol.
If you have a chat with an agent (most offer a free phone consultation)they will be able to tell you what visa categorys are best for you and an insight into what you are required to do. You can then make a choice of applying by yourself or paying the agent to do it for you.
What is your proffesion at the moment and do you have any qualifications?
Dont feel silly asking questions we were all in your shoes at one time, and we will help if we can.
      Good Luck with everything

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place...
If you get a chance, take it, If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy they just said it would be worth it...

      Thank you.

After looking at the site a bit more and taking the visa test you posted it seems that I have to apply for a 175, I am nervous about paying over £1000 and then being turned down though :( I guess that's a risk you take if you want it badly enough.

There are so many things to consider, where abouts, education, availability of work..

      Hi and welcome to PIO.

One thing you need to consider is whether the father of your daughter will allow you to bring her to Australia. I know it's something that people who have separated need to get sorted and I guess before you spend money it would be a good idea just to make sure that it's not going to be an issue.

      Good luck

      Hi Rudi,

Thank you for your concern.. I discussed the matter in depth with her father when we first decided we would like to move abroad (he and I have been separated for about 8 years, my partner that I have just separated from is not her birth father) and he agrees that she deserves a better standard of living and he trusts me. He knows there are countless ways they can stay in touch and he is welcome to come visit should it all go through.

Hopefully, he will stick to his word :)
