Hi Lynne. Firstly congratulations, you must feel very happy.
I really dont know much about all this so excuse me if I sound niave but how do you get a state sponsor, what do you need to be accepted and how do you apply?
My hb is a sparks & desperately trying to find a sponsor for work, not that im getting anywhere, it all seems so impossible. Just wondered if a state sponsor may be another option??
Thanks x

A state sponsorship consists of skills being assessed and applying to state government for them to sponsor you into that state - you then apply for the visa. I don't think there are many restrictions (if any) for WA on where you must live/work but there are plenty in Melbourne & Sydney. We are heading for Queensland and there are a number of postcodes we cannot live or work in including Brisbane CBD and the Gold Coast. The government are encouraging migrants to live/work in low growth areas so they tend to be more rural (albeit not necessarily in the middle of nowhere!).
Queensland - visa is valid for 3 years, we must work in a permitted postcode for 12 months and live in one of the permitted postcodes for 2 years. We can then live/work anywhere but then have to apply for a visa to stay in the country.
The Government have brought in new guidelines that the 475 (regional sponsored) will be assessed quicker than some other routes - typically 7 months for Queensland.
If you get out there and find an employer sponsor you can change your visa (costs incurred of course).
Hope this helps.
