state sponsorships - how many?
Hi, is there a limit on how many state sponsorships a state will grant per year?
I'm on the CSL and I'm just trying to figure out if there will be a constant flow of 176 visas, and how long it might take before they start processing CSL 175 visas.
(I know I know i should be patient and just wait for the 13th of Feb, but it's just so frustrating!
)
Thanks!
Elli

What happens on the 13th February ?

I'm not sure, but this is according to the processing info sent out by ASPC:
Applications are now being allocated as follows:
State & Territory Nominated Applications:
Subclass 134, 136, 137, 175, 176, 475, 487, 495, 885 and 886 applications
(processed by the ASPC and where a successful State or Territory Nomination
is held) will all be allocated to case officers for assessment by 13
February 2009.
Applications with Occupations on the Critical Skills List:
Applications are not being allocated at present

Elli - So it looks like this is specific to State sponsored applications for Adelaide only ??

Hi Elli
The ASPC believe that as they start to get the State Sponsored pile down, they will have time to make a start on the CSL applications next.
Even the ASPC do not know at the moment exactly when they will be able to start progressing the CSL applications. Some of the Agents are saying probably towards the end of March but nobody will know for sure until it happens.
The States can grant as many sponsorships as they want if the occupation is on the State's own 176 List. It is entirely up to each State to set their own ceilings if they want to. In addition each State is allowed to grant 500 additional sponsorships when the occupation is not on their 176 list but is on the SOL.
Do not worry. CSL processing will start to happen sooner or later. Come July and the new Migration Program Year, the Minister needs to be able to say how well his new wheeze worked during the second half of the 2008/9 Program Year.
He won't dare to fib about how many CSL applications were actually granted between 1st July and 30th June because he knows that the Press can use the Freedom of Information Act to force DIAC to cough up the true figures.
Best wishes

Hi there,
Just a quick one - I lodged my State Sponsored 176 visa application on line on Jan 20th. After I have checked my application progress do I then press cancel form at the bottom of the page to navigate away from the page or just close down the whole immi.gov webpage site? In addition everything says required and I have attached every piece of documentation asked for, apart from one or two very minor things. Is this normal?
Finally how many of us 176 applicants should be booking meds and police checks straight away? I know there are promises of us all being allocated a CO by the 13th Feb, but I wonder if this will be feasible?

Hi Jenny
I can't help with the technical workings of the DIAC computer but no doubt someone else can.
The e-mail says that all State Sponsored applications will be allocated to COs by 13th Feb. It does not say that everyone involved will hear from a CO by that date.
Best wishes

Thanks Gill and I don't mind being patient during the wait and won't panic if I don't hear from a CO during February.
I can contact my agent who helped me with the first visa part re the techinical DIAC stuff if someone doesn't respond here, but that poor office has helped me soooo much already!
Cheers,
Jenny

Hi, I'm onshore and waiting for my Vic State Sponsorship to be approved (I applied on Dec 23rd), so I can apply for my 886 visa.
If I don't receive my State Sponsorship before 13th Feb can I still apply? It's a bit confusing!
Thanks

Hi Jenny
When you are finished checking your application progress, click on cancel form to clear. Also in regard to your attached documents they will not change from "required" until a real person actually looks at, i.e a CO. Ours still says this and we lodged in august 2008.
Good luck
